‘Why no one speaks out when Rohit Sharma or anyone else isn’t among the runs’ – Sunil Gavaskar backs Virat Kohli amid his poor form

Key Highlights

  • Sunil Gavaskar backs Virat Kohli but slams Rohit Sharma and others at the same time.
  • Gavaskar appreciates India team innings against England and winning it by 2-1.
  • Gavaskar also was seen heaping praise on Suryakumar Yadav for his century in the third final match against England.

Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar and the person who is celebrating his 73rd birthday has come forward in support of Virat Kohli but parallely slammed the skipper Rohit Sharma, who equally is going through a rough patch of his career.

Mr. Gavaskar while getting interviewed by the sports news channel, Sports Tak on Youtube, and which was hosted by Vikrant Gupta. Vikrant while interviewing Mr. Gavaskar, started with some positive talks on how India won the T20I series against England recently what does Mr. Gavaskar feels about it.

Mr. Gavaskar started with praise telling how India team won the first two matches by 50 and then 49 runs but when asked him about the third match where the English team gave India a tough runs chase target of 216 and how Suryakumar Yadav blasted a century and what does he  (Mr. Gavaskar) thinks about that match. Mr. Gavaskar with a smile replied,

“Honestly speaking, Main Wimbledon tennis final dekh raha tha”

(Which means “he was watching the Wimbledon tennis final”).

Once upon hearing the reply, both of them laughed out louder.

Well coming back to the main point of the story, according to Mr. Sunil Gavaskar, the batting maestro Virat Kohli has been victim of fierce criticism from all sides than other players. Mr. Gavaskar asserted that the way players are following their batting play with reckless style are bound to fail.

Criticizing Rohit Sharma, Mr. Gavaskar said,

“I don’t understand why no one speaks out when Rohit Sharma or anyone else isn’t among the runs? The template that the team is using now of playing attacking cricket, you are bound to fail when it doesn’t come off. We have a good enough selection committee to think about this and take a call,”

Now the interesting thing about the statement made is that why Rohit’s name here when he himself is going through a rough patch.

Recently, Rohit Sharma during a press conference was seen lashing out at those who were speaking against Virat Kohli, and passing unnecessary statements on players, he said. By saying this, Rohit Sharma was referring to the former legendary player Kapil Dev, who recently was seen passing comments while speaking to the ABP news against the senior cricketer Virat Kohli, saying,

“If world No. 2 bowler Ashwin can be dropped from the Test side, then (once upon a time) world No. 1 batter can also be dropped,”

Probably, referring to the same, Rohit Sharma came in rescue of Virat saying,

“There are seeing from outside, they don’t know what’s happening inside the team. We have a thought process, we make the team, we debate and discuss it and think a lot about it”

Rohit continued further said,

“The players we picked our backed, they are given opportunities. People on the outside don’t know about it. So it’s more important about what’s happening within our team, that’s important for me”

Now we cannot say whether Sunil Gavaskar was defending his ex-teammate and friend Kapil Dev in the above interview or it was just a general overview from the legendary cricketer of all times.
