The Blackburn Rovers forward is experiencing a unique moment and it is the reason why his team is fighting for promotion to the Premier League. Many top-flight teams set their eyes on him and at PlayOn99 News we tell you who he is.

By Facundo Di Bona (@facudibona).

Ben Brereton lives a dream present: at 22, he is the second Championship scorer with 20 goals and responsible for Blackburn Rovers dreaming of fighting for promotion to the Premier League.

The Roses team got 6 wins in a row and came within one point of leading Bournemouth. It is the second highest scoring team and Brereton is the protagonist: 8 goals in the last 8 games. The final matchday caught up with Alan Shearer, the last player to score 20 goals in the same season for Blackburn.

Continuity in the Championship is at risk: several Premier League teams want to have his services. First there was talk of Leeds, where it would be directed by Marcelo Bielsa, former Chile coach. Although now Newcastle is named. As if to follow in Shearer’s footsteps. Rovers coach Tony Mowbray confessed they couldn’t turn down a good offer for the forward.

Ben Brereton Díaz was born in Stoke-on-Trent, England, but made the decision to become a Chilean naturalized. His mother, Andrea Díaz, is from Concepción, Chile, and she settled in the English city. There he met his father, Martin Brereton, a police officer and his connection to soccer: he was an amateur player in the Potteries and District Sunday League.

The possibility of being Chilean arose a little less than a year ago. The Chilean National Team did not have a good time in the Conmebol Qualifiers and the media began to slip that a player from the English second division would be the drowning shot.

Brereton had a regular present without much virtue, but he attracted attention at a delicate moment. Martín Lasarte, coach of Chile and questioned about his position, called him up for two games in which he did not play. A few days later he was summoned to the Copa América and in his second game he started, he scored the winning goal against Bolivia and did not leave the team again.

The last window of the Conmebol Qualifiers served to make Chile dream of qualifying for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. The trans-Andean team was almost last and with 3 victories they got to a point of the repechage zone. Brereton scored 2 goals and started every game.

The Chileans went crazy with the incorporation of him. They call it ‘Bendito’. There are even fans who come to Ewood Park to see him in the Blackburn Rovers jersey.

Manuel Muñoz and his son were the last match and they witnessed Brereton’s goal from the stands that gave the Lancashire team victory. When the game ended, the forward came over to give a shirt as a gift. The Chileans gave him warmth and already taught him his insults: “hueón” and “conchetumare”.
