What a journey! – Premier League week 17

Date:

SHARE POST

Come in to see the goals and the best plays of the Premier League gave us another series of great games on Wednesday of its 17th week. There were changes in Champions League positions, teams that breathed and others that got bad surprises. Read the full note and find out all the news from the best league in the world.

Brighton & Hove Albion – Wolverhampton

The Wolves stomped into the bay and took a narrow win against tough Brighton that appeared to come as a surprise at the start of the Premier League. Bruno Lage’s team had made it clear in their last two games that they are not an easy team: Manchester City and Liverpool had scored just one goal for them. Today was no exception and it seems that it is for serious things.

The serious defense, in block, with criteria and rudeness, has given a plus to this team that did not win for four games, but today it retaliated giving headaches to a Brighton that still does not understand how it could not convert at least one goal. At the end of the first half, Roman Saiss scored the only goal of this match to give victory to his team and give him hope to be only four points away from the European zone. Special mention for the assistance of Ruben Neves: totally exquisite, left over, as if to frame what a soccer player must do for his partner to convert.

Crystal Palace – Southampton

The Eagles and Saints drew 2-2 in the glass house in London in what was an even match, with many goals and unexpected returns. Crystal Palace started winning thanks to a goal that came almost out of the locker room: quick steal in three quarters of the court, Wilfried Zaha received in the area, hooks and deceives Willy Caballero with a shot at the near post.

Everything seemed happy for Patrick Vieira‘s team, but he had three fatal minutes where James Ward-Prowse appeared, first, with a magnificent free kick at the corner, and Armando Broja, after a loss of Conor Gallagher, to shoot from outside the area and tie the match after half an hour.

Crystal Palace did not have the capacity to generate game. He couldn’t get in well against a relatively easy and beaten opponent like Soton. After the hour of the game, he found the miracle draw and with an unexpected guest: Jordan Ayew appeared at the far post and pushed a loose ball. Ayew had not scored a goal in the Premier League since November 2020. It took 43 games for him to do it again.

Arsenal – West Ham

Arsenal beat West Ham 2-0 with goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Emile Smith-Rowe and got into the Champions League zone. The Gunners bothered a team that generally bothers them. He had the ability to dominate the game from minute one to the end. He neutralized the rival and attacked him in the best ways. For the first goal there was an exquisite combination between Alexander Lacazette – today captain – and Martinelli. There was also showtime of the Brazilian who does not stop growing soccer in this championship.

There were more than twenty arrivals at the goal by Mikel Arteta‘s team. He beat the Hammers. He made them small with the ball. The finishing touch for this meeting was given by Emile-smith-Rowe: the squad player collaborated with the recovery in his own field, accompanied Bukayo Saka and -when the area approached- defined crossed. In the middle Fabiansky saved a penalty to Lacazette. It mattered little in the north London team: after the scandal for removing Aubameyang for indiscipline, Arteta found tranquility and left his team in the Champions League zone after a long time.
