The luck of the champion – Premier League

Manchester City beat Arsenal 2-1 in a controversial match. Saka, Mahrez and Rodri scored the goals in an electrifying match that made it clear that those led by Guardiola have something else to consecrate themselves in the Premier League.

The Citizens reached their 11th consecutive victory for the English tournament. Manchester City beat Arsenal 2-1 in a controversial match in the premier league. It wasn’t because of his great game, but because of luck. The one that sometimes is needed to be a champion. Arsenal dominated from end to end. In the first half he took charge of the ball and generated risks.

Mikel Arteta could not be on the substitute bench for being positive for coronavirus and left his assistant, Albert Stuivenberg, in charge. The Gunners arrived with a great mental impulse of results and collective game. The team proved to be up to the task and that its growth is real.

Arsenal beat one of the best teams in the world and took the lead with a move worthy of City. They came out of the back, handled the ball from right to left as Kieran Tierney threw a low cross and Bukayo Saka appeared to shoot the goal.

The London team became strong with and without the ball. Whenever Manchester City was predisposed to attack, it did not find the spaces. A tremendous proposal.

In the second half it seemed that the story to be the same, but again the VAR appeared. Bernardo Silva went into the area, dribbled with the ball and Granit Xhaka seemed to cross it. The referee, Stuart Attwell, demanded that he get up, but he reviewed the play and took a penalty. Decision protected in which the defender took the opponent’s shirt, without understanding that Silva was already collapsing to claim. Riyad Mahrez changed it for a goal.

The controversy did not stop there and the penalty charged continued to take its toll on Arsenal. Gabriel Magalhaes had received a warning for excessive claim and two minutes later he committed an absurd foul in the middle of the field to cut the play. Double yellow card and to the showers.

The Gunners were left with one less player and Manchester City went to seek victory. He had some chances to score, but the clearest was from the Gunners: Aymeric Laporte wanted to get the ball closer to his goalkeeper and went overboard; when the ball was about to enter the goal, Nathan Aké took it out over the line, but the worst happened when Gabriel Martinelli came in front to score the second goal and sent it to the clouds.

When everything seemed to be a draw, Kevin de Bruyne‘s lucidity appeared to see a break in the rival defense and give a pass from above. The defenders could not get the ball, they left the rebound short and Rodri appeared to score the final 2-1 in the 93rd minute of the game. The Premier League will never have bad games.

Pep Guardiola opened the year like all of 2020: winning. Although he was aware of the match, he admitted that Arsenal was superior to Manchester City and said:

“Arsenal were better, we faced a team that in the last year struggled to be among the top four”.
