As the sport changes, so do the rules of the organizing organizations after a certain period. Now, about cricket, the Mumbai Cricket Association has made some changes permitted by the rule of the Supreme Court.
MCA has sent notices to all its members about the proposed changes.
There are likely to be many changes in the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). MCA members have organized a special general meeting on July 29. The meeting will discuss major proposed changes to the constitution, including abolishing the voting rights of international cricketers, allowing persons above the age of 70 to hold office, and implementing the Supreme Council Act through secretaries instead of chief executives.
If the majority of members agree on these changes, many other Indian stalwarts like Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, and Dilip Vengsarkar will no longer have voting rights in the MCA. Every state cricket association under the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has had to change its constitution following the Supreme Court’s order on the recommendations of the Lodha Committee.
MCA has sent notices to all its members about the proposed changes. The notice sent said,
‘MCA wants to make international players associate members without any voting rights.’
The MCA proposal states that ‘No individual member such as patron member, donor member, etc. shall have the right to vote. Also, the Lodha committee had recommended that only international players should be given membership in the association. Therefore, international players can remain in the association as associate members. They can attend the meeting and give their contribution or suggestions.’
According to the MCA, if persons who do not have sufficient experience are made to represent its interests in the BCCI, there will be no recognition for Mumbai’s contribution to Indian cricket. To protect the interests of the MCA, experienced persons can deal with the negotiation and personal interaction with other member associations should be made the representatives.
