Team India was rewarded on ICC team rankings, after defeating west indies in their home

But, India secured the third position in the men’s ICC ODI rankings updated on July 28, 2022, with a 3-0 series win over the West Indies in Port of Spain, Trinidad.

India has got a 4-point lead over fourth-placed Pakistan in the ICC rankings. India is behind New Zealand and second-ranked England. Meanwhile, West Indies are 9th in the ICC ODI rankings and have lost 9 matches.


The team of New Zealand has sat at the top of the ODI standings with 128 points, while England (119) remains second despite their recent series loss to India and a series draw against South Africa.

India started the year with an ODI series defeat in South Africa. The team scored a 119-run win in the third ODI against the West Indies at Port of Spain was their third consecutive series win of the year.


In the 3-match ODI series between India and West Indies, the Indian team led by Shikhar Dhawan defeated the Caribbean team by 3-0. After close wins in the first two matches, the Indian team scored their biggest win on Caribbean soil by thrashing the West Indies by 119 runs in the third match. Opening batsmen Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, and Shubman Gill played a brilliant inning for the Indian team in this series and played a vital role in winning the series.

Indian players have also benefited from this good performance in the ODI rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC). While Shikhar Dhawan has moved up one place to the 13th position in the ODI batsmen’s rankings, Shreyas Iyer has also jumped 20 places to occupy the 54th position.


In this series which ended against West Indies, Shikhar Dhawan scored 168 runs at an average of 56 in 3 matches, while Shubman Gill also scored 205 runs at an average of 102.50 in 3 innings. Shreyas Iyer has also contributed 161 runs in 3 innings at an average of 53.67. All three players have played two half-centuries in the series.


Rohit Sharma-Virat Kohli dropped in the ranking

At the same time, the fast bowler of the Indian team, Mohammad Siraj, has also made an entry into the top 100 list for the first time and has reached the 97th position. Significantly, senior players have been rested from the series, including the names of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Its effect has also been seen on his ranking.


Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have slipped down one place in the rankings and have occupied the fifth and sixth positions. Among the Caribbean bowlers, Aljari Joseph has moved up two places to 16th. Meanwhile, South Africa’s Quinton de Kock has moved up two places to the fourth position.
