The all-rounder cricket player from England Ben Stokes has declared the surprising cum shocking decision of leaving the One-Day international cricket. He played his last ODI match with South Africa on July 19.
All know that a player has a short-term career in sports due to growing age, and the health does not support to play such physically difficult sport after a certain age number. Cricketers usually announce their retirement at the age range of 35-39. Stokes is just 31. It was rigorous for him to play in all formats and was unable to manage the schedule.
While declaring his retirement from ODI, he explicitly stated with a long explanation saying,
“Three formats are just unsustainable for me now. Not only do I feel that my body is letting me down because of the schedule and what is expected of us, but I also feel that I am taking the place of another player who can give Jos and the rest of the team they are all. It’s time for someone else to progress as a cricketer and make incredible memories as I have over the past 11 years.”
It was a hectic schedule that was affecting Stoke’s health. Before Stoke, many former players had raised this issue of continuous matches and their schedules. As cricket has become a commercial sport now, players have to put their 500% into practicing and performing their best. It’s a very obvious and natural process that affects the body where no matter what the age is.
In addition to this, Stokes further said that he always wanted to contribute to the team 100%. But the players are not cars where you fill up the petrol and expect to get ready again to drive.
“the schedule at the moment seems very jam-packed and it’s asking a lot of the players to keep putting in 100% of effort every time they walk onto the field,”
“Teams are looking at their squads and wondering where they can give players a break. If you want the best product possible you want the best players out there, producing that. If teams and organizations feel players need a break to look after them in one format, I don’t think it looks good. I look at us playing a Test match and the one-day were playing at the same time as well. It’s odd to think about.”

It was a memorable moment for Ben Stokes in his ODI cricket career when he was playing for the 2019 World Cup final at Lord’s, where he scored an unbeaten 84 against New Zealand.
