Russia vs Ukraine – Football is not exempt – Playon99 News

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has had repercussions on soccer. Abramovich, Manchester United, sponsors, and players, are involved in a problem that does not exceed the ball and the fields, while the European qualification for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 is in danger – Playon99 News

Russia made the decision to invade Ukrainian territory for geopolitical reasons and, as always, soccer is not immune to these conflicts.

The West launched into the repudiation of the Russian community and President Vladimir Putin, while soccer teams did not want to be left behind.

Manchester United was the first to take action: according to Daily Star, the Red Devils are prepared to cancel a sponsorship deal with Aeroflot, a Russian flag carrier.

The company was the first Russian sponsor at the Manchester club in 2013 and it was all worth a deal worth around 43 million pounds. In 2017 they renewed the contract until 2023, but it looks set to run out early.

Amid concerns about flying Aeroflet because it could cause political problems for the Glazer family, managers plan to agree with Qatar Airways. How ironic.

A similar move was made by Schalke 04, a giant German club that was relegated last season and is now playing in the German 2.

The German club has the main sponsorship of Gazprom, Russia’s largest state-owned gas distribution company, but they took the decision to remove them from the front of the jersey.

Schalke had a $9 million deal until 2025 that could have been $15 million if they were promoted this season. The removal of the company’s sponsorship comes on top of the German blockade on the GasStream II pipeline that would transport gas for the same company to all of Europe.

If we talk about politics and soccer, it is impossible not to mention Roman Abramovich. The historic owner of Chelsea and one of the best CEOs in the world was sanctioned by the British government.

Abramovich, who owns a mansion near Kensington Palace, will not be allowed to set foot in Great Britain, even temporarily, and it is feared that the sanctions will be even stronger after the package planned by NATO.

The Russian, the owner of Evraz, a mining and steel giant, ventured into soccer as the owner of Chelsea, a team he led to the conquest of all possible titles.

According to some sources, the London club owes him 180 million pounds in assets, but there is even the possibility of seizure of his assets in England due to the actions of Russia and its links with Vladimir Putin.

Oleksandr Zinchenko, Manchester City player, uploaded on Instagram a message dedicated to Putin:

“I hope you die in the most painful way, monster”

Anyway, the app automatically deleted the post of the Ukrainian player who is in the Premier League.

Yesterday, during the Champions League round of 16, Benfica’s Ukrainian player Roman Yaremchuk celebrated one of the goals by showing a T-shirt he had under his shirt.

On it could be seen the coat of arms of the Ukrainian army. The event, which supposedly has no place for UEFA and FIFA because it is a political expression, took place within the framework of a tournament that has a particular main sponsor: Gazprom.
