Roger Binny elected 36th BCCI President, replaces Sourav Ganguly



Former Indian all-rounder Roger Binny has replaced Sourav Ganguly as President of the Board of Control of Cricket in India.

Ahead of the election for Chairman of the International Cricket Council ICC many people were expecting that the Board of Control of Cricket in India- BCCI might nominate Sourav Ganguly for Chairmanship.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced its new president. Former Indian cricketer and member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team Roger Binny has been announced as the new President of BCCI. The decision was taken at the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting held at the Taj Hotel in Mumbai on Tuesday afternoon. Roger Binny is the 36th person to hold the post of BCCI President. Before him, from the year 2019 till now, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly had held this post.

It is worth mentioning that 67-year-old Roger Binny, president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association, was elected unopposed as the BCCI President as none other than him had filed nominations for the post. The election by the BCCI office-bearers was only a nominal one as they were certain to be elected as the President. Roger Binny will have to relinquish the post of President of Karnataka State Cricket Association as soon as he becomes BCCI President.

Won the 1983 World Cup with superb bowling

Let us tell you that Roger Binny started his career in the year 1979 with a Test match against Pakistan played in Bangalore. He took 47 wickets and 830 runs in 27 Test matches in his career. While in 72 ODIs he scored 77 wickets and 629 runs.

Roger Binny played a vital role in the memorable victory of the Indian team in the 1983 World Cup. He took 18 wickets in 8 matches played in the World Cup. Binny was the highest wicket-taker in that World Cup
