Ravi Shastri Suggestion to save test cricket

As the England cricketer, Ben Stokes has decided to leave or retire from all the ODI formats, it has become a matter of discussion all over the world. Many young and old cricketers have come forward against the decision made by Stokes, but the majority of them feel the reason for quitting by Stokes is completely justified.

Ben Stokes played his last ODI match on Tuesday, a day before he made some startling comments about why he is leaving and so on. He said,

“We are not cars, you can’t just fill us up and we’ll go out there and be ready to be fueled up again”

However going forward, the 31-year-old cricketer feels that there is too much cricket going on which is untenable. He was also seen indirectly saying how they are giving rest to their players, citing the example of several other cricket boards. Read what he had to say in his own words,

“It’s isn’t just me or us, you see it all around the world now where teams are having to rest some players in a certain series so they feel like they are getting a break”

Even Michael Vaughan and Nasser Hussain, the ex. Cricketers have raised the issue of calling the schedule a joke.

On the other hand, Ravi Shastri, the former head coach had a slight but somewhat equivalent suggestion to make where he suggested reducing the number of T20 bilateral series and focusing more on the Franchise league. Look below at what he said while speaking on the Telegraph’s Sports podcast.

“I would be a little careful of the number of bilateral splits, especially in T20 cricket. There’s a lot of franchise cricket which can be encouraged, whichever country it’s in – India, West Indies, or Pakistan,”

He further added,

“You play less bilateral and then you get together for the World Cups. So the emphasis on ICC World Cup events becomes paramount. Then people look forward to them,”

The former head coach taking the level of debate online to a different line also suggested that to save the test series in the coming 10 years, they act now. Ravi Shastri suggested, having test formats divided into two tiers i.e., the top 6 teams in the 1st tier and the second six teams in the 2nd tier. This way both the teams will be clashing against each other more often and reducing the pressure of the T20I bilateral series in tandem.
