Ravi Shastri Says SRH Batter “Not Far At All” From Maiden India Call-up

Ravi Shastri, the former team India’s coach heaped praises for the SRHs player, Rahul Tripathi after his fantastic match winning innings against the Mumbai Indians. The match between the two team was held at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, and the Mumbai Indians team won the toss but chose to bowl giving the opponent Sunrisers team to set the target.

In response to the opportunity given, the SRH team came out on the field encouraged and started with their two openers Abhishek Sharma and Priyam Garg. After Abhishek Sharma’s dismissal on 9 off 10, the Rahul Tripathi came in batting on the third position, and since than played for what he came on the pitch for.

Rahul Tripathi smashed 72 runs off 44 balls which included nine boundaries and three sixers. The innings by Rahul was indeed a fabulous one that helped the Sunrisers Hyderabad team reach 193 for the loss of 6 wickets.

Looking at Rahul’s terrific performance and consistency, the former team India’s coach Ravi Shastri backed the player for his fearless cricket. He also said that if the momentum continues the days are not far for him getting his maiden India call-up. All these things Ravi Shastri was speaking while getting interviewed by ESPNCricinfo. He said,

“He’s not far at all. If someone doesn’t get up from the bench and gets up on the wrong side of the bed and gets injured, this guy can be slotted in straight away,”

Ravi further added saying,

“For just what he has done, if you want to value performances in domestic cricket, this is the biggest domestic cricket league. So, if he’s come season after season performing, I’m sure the selectors will be watching that very very closely and giving him his due,”

Very much fond of the player fearless cricketing, Ravi said,

“He’s (Rahul Tripathi) got a tag of being a known quantity and someone the opposition wants to get out quickly. Irrespective of that, he comes out and plays his game. And his shot-making ability, the all-round game he has, he’s not overawed by any opposition or any bowler, which is great to see,”

For sure Rahul Tripathi has been playing fearless cricket since his tenure started with the Sunrisers Hyderabad team and so far, has achieved 243 runs out of 13 matches at the strike rate of 161.73 runs including 3 half centuries.

On the other hand, the Mumbai Indians while chasing the score, succumbed to the bowling attack of Umran Malik who took 3 crucial wickets for his team and giving 23 runs. The Mumbai Indians made 190 for the loss of 7 wickets and lost the match by 3 runs.
