Quarterfinals in Africa – News, line-ups and predictions

The quarterfinals in the African Cup of Nations will be defined and only two places remain. Egypt, Morocco, Senegal and Equatorial Guinea will gouge out their eyes for the spot in the semifinals.

By Facundo Di Bona (@facudibona).

Egypt – Morocco (8:30 PM)

The Pharaohs will face the Moroccans in the best duel of this phase with a special matchup for two teams from North Africa.

Egypt, the top winner of this tournament with 7 conquests, will seek to leave behind the agony with which they suffered their round of 16 match against the Ivory Coast in which they advanced on penalties.

The Egyptian team has in its squad the majority of players who play in their country and five of them play in Al-Ahly and, if they advance, they will not be available for the Club World Cup against Monterrey in Mexico.

The African Cup of Nations final and the match for third place will be played on February 6, while Al-Ahly and Monterrey are due to meet on February 5.

Egypt has Mohamed Salah as its absolute figure and football guide, but the Liverpool player could never win a title with the most winning team on the continent.

Morocco left Malawi on the road in a match that started low on the scoreboard and has yet to lose so far in the tournament.

His dream of reaching the final of the cup that he has won only once in 1976, and whose defining moment he has not reached since 2004, lies in his goalkeeper Bono and striker En-Nesyri, both Sevilla players.

Egypt: Gabaski; Kamal, Hegazy, Abdelmoneim, Fatouh; Elneny, Al-Sulaya, El-Said; Salah, Mohammed, Marmoush.

Morocco: Bonus; Hakimi, Saiss, Aguerd, Massina; Louza, Amallah, Amrabat, Boufal; En-Nesyri, El Kaabi.

Although there is a quota of 1.60 for +1.5 goals, we must not forget that Egypt comes from a goalless draw against the Ivory Coast, but if we talk about possibilities, they had 21 shots and Morocco comes from scoring two goals and conceding one against Malawi.

In terms of results, the match has a very open resolution and the odds reflect this: 3.7 for Egypt, 2.83 for a draw and 2.3 for Morocco.

A single goal by Mohamed Salah has a 3 quota.

Senegal – Equatorial Guinea (12:30 AM)

The most powerful team in terms of names will have the difficult task of facing one of the surprises of this tournament and carrying the weight of being favorites.

Senegal is coming off a 2-0 win over Cape Verde, but failed to convince throughout the tournament with two goalless draws against Malawi and Guinea, and scoring just one goal in the group stage for victory over Zimbabwe.

Sadio Mané is the top Senegalese star, he is between cottons and seems to have received a call from Liverpool so that he does not risk his physical in this match.

In any case, the team has the necessary names to win the first title in its history and take revenge for the lost final in the last African Cup of Nations 2019.

Edouard Mendy in the goal, Kalidou Koulibaly as a reference in the background and the trio in the middle with the Gueye and Nampalys Mendy are Senegal’s letter of introduction.

Equatorial Guinea has just eliminated Mali on penalties, but recorded a historic victory against Algeria, the last champion of the tournament.

The Equatoguineans will not be able to count on Federico Bikoro and Josete Miranda due to suspension.

Senegal: Edouard Mendy; Sarr, Koulibaly, Diallo, Ciss; Idrissa Gueye, Nampalys Mendy, Pape Gueye; Dia, Diédhiou, Mané.

Equatorial Guinea: Owono; Akapo, Orozco, Coco, Ndong; Salvador, Ganet, Machin, Buyla; Bocari Eneme, Hanza.

Senegal starts as the clear favorite with an odd of 1.57, but the African Cup of Nations is a pandora’s box and Equatorial Guinea can do its thing to make happy those who risk it for its extravagant 9 odds.

There are some interesting odds: +1.5 goals is 1.76, +2 is 2.48 and that both will score pays 3.45.
