PSL 2022: Shahid Afridi gets bashed in Pakistan Super League, 67 runs in 4 overs



The 10th match of the tournament was played between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League 2022 (PSL 2022) on Thursday.

In this match, United beat Quetta Gladiators by a margin of 43 runs. Islamabad United, invited to bat first in the match played at the National Stadium in Karachi, scored a mammoth score of 229 runs in the stipulated 20 overs for the loss of 4 wickets. In reply, Quetta Gladiators were all out after scoring 186 runs in 20 overs.

Islamabad United batsman Colin Munro (39 balls, 5 sixes, 3 fours, 72 not out) was adjudged the player of the match for his brilliant innings. This was the second win for Islamabad United in three matches and they are frozen in the second place in the points table of PSL 2022. This was the third loss for Quetta Gladiators in the fourth match and they are in fourth place. Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi returned to the field from this match, but his performance was disappointing. Afridi conceded 67 runs in 4 overs and took one wicket. At the same time, in batting, he got out after scoring 4 runs in 8 balls.

Three batsmen scored flamboyant half-centuries. Quetta Gladiators captain Sarfaraz Ahmed won the toss and elected to field. Paul Sterling (58) and Alex Hales (22) got Islamabad United off to a great start with a partnership of 55 runs. James Faulkner gave United the first blow by getting Hales caught by Vince.

From here, Sterling and Colin Munro (72 *) shared 47 runs to take the team’s score beyond 100 runs. Mohammad Nawaz broke this partnership by getting Sterling caught by Tanveer in the 8th over. The Irish batsman scored 58 runs in just 28 balls with the help of seven fours and three sixes. Captain Shadab Khan was made his second victim by Nawaz. Iftikar Ahmed took the catch of Khan. From here, Munro and Azam Khan (65) shared a 93-run partnership for the fourth wicket to take the team to a huge score of 229 runs. Manro scored an unbeaten 72 off 39 balls with the help of three fours and five sixes.

At the same time, Azam Khan scored 65 runs in 35 balls with the help of two fours and 6 sixes. Shahid Afridi bowled Azam Khan in the last over. For Quetta Gladiators, Mohammad Nawaz got two wickets while James Faulkner and Shahid Afridi got one wicket each. Shadab Khan took five wickets

Chasing a huge target of 230 runs, Quetta Gladiators got off to a quick start with a 54-run partnership between Ahsan Ali (50) and Abdul Bengalzai (14). Hasan Ali gave United their first success by getting Bengalzai caught by Azam Khan. Waqas Maqsood did not even allow James Vince to open the account and was caught out by Shadab Khan.

Henceforth, Shadab Khan played the magic of his spin and made five batsmen his prey one by one. Shadab first got opener Ahsan Ali caught by Hales. Ali completed 50 runs in 27 balls with the help of 8 fours and a six. Hereafter, Shadab Khan clean bowled Ben Duckett (11). Iftikar Ahmed (6) was caught by Faheem Ashraf. Sarfaraz Ahmed (11) was caught by Faheem Ashraf and then Shahid Afridi (4) was caught by Hasan Ali and completed his five-wicket haul.
