Premier League – There are three names that entered the final stretch to take over Chelsea’s shares. An Englishman and two Americans are the ones who will submit the final offer. While the Ricketts were ruled out as racist.
By Facundo Di Bona (@facudibona).
The era of Roman Abramovich comes to an end. And in the next few hours the new owner of Chelsea will be known. The deadline to submit bids for the London club is closed. And it already has three definite contenders.
Stephen Pagliuca, owner of Atalanta and the NBA’s Boston Celtics, Martin Broughton, former Liverpool chairman, and Todd Boehly, owner of the NFL’s LA Dodgers, are the only names left.
The Ricketts family has withdrawn its bid for Chelsea at the last minute. Those who own the Chicago Cubs gave up on the purchase. And according to the media, it has nothing to do with the protests of the English team’s fans. They had been protesting against the family for their known history of racist comments.
In addition, the Ricketts did not reach an agreement with the rest of their partners in the final offer. A proposal that also included businessmen Ken Griffin and Dan Gilbert.
? @NizaarKinsella on picking a winning bid:
“Usually Roman Abramovich would decide who the next owner of Chelsea is. Bruce Buck and Marina Granovskaia are basically an extension of Roman Abramovich, so it is basically Roman still deciding it.”

The favorite to keep Chelsea
At the moment, the great favorite to buy Chelsea is Todd Boehly. An old acquaintance for the London fans. His fortune is valued at €6 billion and he was involved in the acquisition of the LA Dodgers from the MBL. But he also tried to buy Chelsea in 2018 for more than €2.5 billion. Although his offer was rejected by Abramovich.
Boehly swooped for Chelsea again and he is not alone. He did it hand in hand with Hanjborg Wyss, with more than 4 billion euros of capital, Jonathan Goldstein and Clearlake Capital. The latter is a Californian investment fund with assets worth 70 billion euros.

Their proposal is the strongest financially and they have been working on it for some time. In fact, Boehly has reportedly met with senior members of Chelsea to discuss the outlines of the new project. Something that includes the mega reform of Stamford Bridge.
