Premier League – Vivek Ranadive could buy Chelsea | Playon99 News

Chelsea is for sale and could have a historic buyer – Vivek Ranadive could become the first Indian owner of the Premier League. The businessman was educated in the United States and owns Sacramento Kings, but has not fared well in the NBA.

By Facundo Di Bona (@facudibona).

Roman Abramovich announced in early March that he would no longer own Chelsea because of the Russia-Ukraine war and set about putting the London club up for sale.

The Blues, reigning World Cup and Champions League champions, are part of what will be a record deal in the history of soccer: its market value could reach 5 billion euros and it would be an unprecedented amount that would include the ownership of Stamford Bridge.

In the United States, the big investors in professional sports are very attentive to operations in Europe, where they have already made inroads in Serie A and the Premier League.

From there, specifically from the NBA environment, could come the possible buyer of Chelsea: according to the portal Sportico, Vivek Ranadive, owner of Sacramento Kings, is among the most interested.

Ranadive is finalizing his bid and would be the first owner of Indian origin in a Premier League club. Among his competitors is NFL’s New York Jets owner Woody Johnson.

Who is Vivek Ranadive?

Vivek Ranadive is 64 years old, was born in Mumbai, and overcame several bureaucratic hurdles to complete his studies at top U.S. schools such as MIT, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Harvard Business School.

He usually tells how he arrived in the United States with only 50 dollars in his pocket and built up a fortune estimated at more than 700 million dollars thanks to the technology company Tibco.

Ranadive entered the world of professional sports in 2013, when he led the business group that bought the Sacramento Kings for $535 million.

The Kings, after the golden era that the NBA is experiencing and with the pandemic setback included, are valued at about $2 billion.

Since he took over the Sacramento Kings, he has had no sporting success and there is talk that he is incapable of changing the course of one of the most suffering franchises in the NBA, but he is highly respected for his social actions in the city of Sacramento, where there was a risk of the Kings moving and he ended up staying.

Ranadive was embroiled in controversy for butting into the coaches’ jobs when he suggested they defend with four players and leave a fisherman.

Since he has been with Sacramento Kings, he made rude mistakes like picking Marvin Bagley Jr. with the No. 2 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft and passing up on Luka Doncic with the same pick.

Sacramento Kings has a 24-43 record in this NBA regular season, with almost no options to get into Playoffs and not even for the new Play-In playoffs.

They are already assured of finishing below 50% wins, something they will do for the sixteenth consecutive season, a record in NBA history, and on the verge of breaking another dismal mark: sixteen straight years without playing in the playoffs, a record they now share with the Los Angeles Clippers (1977-1991).

Increasingly questioned, Ranadive is looking to enter the world of soccer. A sport that has not yet reached the professional standards of the NBA and follows traditional lines, but which has evolved over the years and, precisely Chelsea, is one of the teams that has best adapted to the new ways of looking at soccer.
