Premier League – Cristiano Ronaldo was back in Manchester United’s team that is not giving up. The team won against Brentford and dreams of qualifying for Europe.

Although the Champions League is an almost impossible mission -five points behind Arsenal with two games in hand- Manchester United has not given up yet. Nor does their current position in the table, sixth, allow them to do so, with the Europa League place still to be secured. But the 3-0 win over Brentford, scored by Bruno Fernandes, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane, brought them closer.
A practical victory, without nuances, that rearm Manchester United. Winner of only 3 of their 10 most recent matches in the Premier League. With two more matches to go before the end of a season that leaves them far from satisfied. But a necessary victory to honor some players on their farewell to Old Trafford.

Bruno Fernandes got the game off to a flying start. It was in the ninth minute, when Manchester United’s attack, always at a superior pace, overwhelmed the Brentford defense. Anthony Elanga appeared on the end line. And the service into the box for Fernandes’ easy right-footed finish to make it 1-0.
Ralf Rangnick’s team, already announced as the next Austrian coach in parallel to his consultancy at the British club, had felt like winners before. And even more so afterwards. Even if, in between, Christian Eriksen first and Ivan Toney later tested the reflexes of David de Gea. Especially the latter, with a very meritorious save with the foot that then held the 1-0. It was a crucial action.

Then came Cristiano Ronaldo‘s 2-0 on the hour mark. And from the penalty spot. Raphael Varane’s 3-0, a fortunate finish from a corner ten minutes later, served to proclaim the undoubted verdict of Manchester United’s triumph.
An illusion for the following season
A team that is searching for the impossible, the qualification for the Champions League. While consoling itself with its current position in the Europa League. That’s something. And maybe it will help Erik ten Hag’s next mission.
