The Premier League is more alive than ever: Liverpool beat Arsenal 2-0 to stay one point behind leaders Manchester City in the title race.

There are still nine rounds left in the Premier League and, after being up to 14 points behind Manchester City, Liverpool has revived and has hopes of winning the title because in April they will face Pep Guardiola’s team.

Liverpool did not have a good outlook when they landed in London: Mo Salah, with physical problems, started as a substitute, but still had the clearest chance just 2 minutes into the game thanks to a Virgil van Dijk header that Aaron Ramsdale was able to deflect away.

Jurgen Klopp’s team was not as intense as usual, and Arsenal lacked punch in the final third of the field and the first half left one chance per team.

Andrew Robertson did well to clear a ball towards Gabriel Martinelli’s goal and Sadio Mané missed a clear shot that deflected over the bar.

The break didn’t do much good because on the way out onto the pitch there was a clear x-ray of what the end of the first half had been like.

Mané again had a clear chance and converted, but the goal was disallowed for offside, while Thiago Alcántara had a rude mistake that Alexander Lacazette took advantage of to leave Martin Odegaard alone in front of goal, but Alisson made a giant of himself and kept the clean sheet for Liverpool.

The adrenaline of the match and, to Arsenal’s disgrace, it had its consecration after 54 minutes: Thiago redeemed himself and set up Diogo Jota for a calm finish at the goalkeeper near post.

The Portuguese claimed his paternity over Arsenal: he scored 7 goals in 7 games against the Gunners since signing for Liverpool.

With the first goal, the way was open and the game was unlocked: not 10 minutes later Liverpool had Arsenal on the ropes and Roberto Firmino scored the second goal pushing the ball in from a great cross by Robertson.

The goal knocked out an Arsenal side that could have pulled one back late on when Martinelli’s shot went just wide and there was nothing more to be done.

Liverpool won and moved closer to the leaders. There are still nine rounds to go before the Premier League returns to being the most entertaining domestic competition in Europe and, in between, we will have a stellar duel between the two best teams.
