Cristiano Ronaldo had set many bonuses for goals in his contract, but Manchester United does not fulfill any of them and the Portuguese’s salary plummeted in relation to what he was earning in Italy. With no Premier League, Champions League, or domestic cups, the red club will finish its fifth consecutive year without titles.

Manchester United‘s bad season, which will be the fifth in a row without lifting a trophy, will have a very negative impact on Cristiano Ronaldo’s earnings: the Portuguese will stop earning more than 6 million euros in bonuses, as part of his contract provided for a series of bonuses to compensate for a big drop in his salary of 900,000 euros a week at Juventus.
All this extra money then goes up in smoke as he fails to win a title in a Manchester United shirt, according to The Sun.

The hardest blow to his earnings was the elimination in the Champions League at the hands of Atletico Madrid since reaching the final in Paris would have meant a bonus of 3 million euros.
Among other bonuses set by Cristiano Ronaldo on his arrival at Manchester United was a 2 million bonus for winning the Premier League, while failure in both domestic cup competitions -FA Cup and Carabao Cup- was another kick in the wallet for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

It doesn’t stop there: failing to finish in the top four in the Premier League and missing out on next season’s Champions League could be even more devastating as he was hovering around half of what he earned in Italy.
Manchester United has nine games in hand and sits sixth in the Premier League, four points behind Arsenal, fourth and last to qualify for the Champions League at the moment, but the London side has a game in hand and could extend its lead.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo will still generate a big bonus if he finishes as Manchester United’s top scorer this season and at the moment he leads the way with 18 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions, with compatriot Bruno Fernandes the closest behind on just nine goals.
The year of his return to Old Trafford has not been the desired one and many unknowns revolve around his future, but Cristiano Ronaldo must finish the season and secure that fourth place no matter what.
