Madison Square Garden witnessed another incredible performance by its favorite villain: Trae Young. Atlanta Hawks knocked out the New York Knicks and consolidated their place in the NBA Play-In spots.

By Facundo Di Bona (@facudibona).

After crushing them last season in the NBA Playoffs, Trae Young was once again a torment for New York Knicks and offered a recital at Madison Square Garden with 45 points and 8 assists.

The point guard also had Bogdan Bogdanovic, with 32 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists, as a partner in the day where Atlanta Hawks swept the New York team.

The two players of the Georgia team also left one of the baskets of the night in the NBA when Bogdanovic took from deep and threw a one-handed pass that reached the hands of Young on the other side of the court, who scored on the buzzer that marked the end of the second quarter.

The point guard, moreover, as soon as he scored turned to the stands. And asked for calm to the Madison fans who already had in Young their new favorite villain after what happened last NBA season in the Playoffs: he was attacked by the former mayor of New York on social networks and received a spit in the middle of the game.

A 2021 clash that led him to confront the former mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, with whom he had his ups and downs on social networks: wearing a Knicks cap, De Blasio launched this message for Young:

“Trae, this is a message to you and to the people who want basketball to be played the right way: stop looking for fouls. Even Steve Nash already said ‘this isn’t basketball.’ Bring it on, the Hawks aren’t going to fly in New York City. Come on, play fair and try to win. The Knicks are going to teach you a lesson.”

The result? New York Knicks eliminated in the NBA Playoffs by Atlanta Hawks with a superb performance by Trae Young, who also got spit on by a Knicks fan from the stands. This in the middle of the pandemic with an image that turned the world upside down.

Back to this morning’s game: Young again had an incredible night at Madison Square Garden and as a good professional he didn’t let the past get in the way.

It was a 117-111 victory for Atlanta Hawks with Young exceeding his personal production in a stadium that is the mecca of world basketball and the NBA: he was 7 of 15 in three-pointers and one of them was key to tie the score with three minutes to go.

The final 180 seconds broke the duel from the perimeter: first Young and then one from Bogdanovic and another from Hunter to turn the scoreboard with a six-point lead that was already insurmountable.

Bogdanovic closed his best performance of the season with 32 points and to top it off, Young left TJ Gibson sitting with a spectacular crossover that ended in a basket.

New York Knicks again had RJ Barrett (30+13+3) as a star, but it was not enough and they almost definitely said goodbye to the Play-In.

Atlanta Hawk already feels inside the Play-In with the 10th place in the Eastern Conference: they are 5.5 games ahead of Washington Wizards, their main pursuer, and beat their other competitor, the Knicks.
