NBA – The Grizzlies beat the Spurs and gave a hand to the Lakers | Playon99 News

San Antonio Spurs could not turn around the scoreboard against Memphis Grizzlies and gave up the tenth position in the Western Conference. The Los Angeles Lakers are smiling for a moment and are inside the NBA Play-Ins at least for one day.

Memphis Grizzlies continue to move forward in an NBA regular season that is one step away from being unique: they won by the minimum against San Antonio Spurs (112-111) and have 54 wins with 5 games still to play.

It is the third time in franchise history that they have reached that number of wins – the last time, in 2015 – and is two away from equaling the all-time best record achieved in 2012.

Phoenix Suns, Utah Jazz, Denver Nuggets, New Orleans Pelicans, and Boston Celtics are the next opponents for a team that is a first-time Southwest Division champion and has secured second place in the Western Conference.

Not bad for a young team that has been without its star player, Ja Morant, for six games. The point guard, one of the great revelations of the NBA, has been out for six games due to his knee and Memphis has not given a damn.

The Grizzlies won all six games and have increased their record to 19-2 without their franchise player on the court.

Any team would have succumbed, but not the Memphis Grizzlies: with Jones scoring 25 points and shooting 48.4% from the field on 16-of-39 three-pointers and 41% shooting. Brooks exploded for 21, while Bane (16), Melton (16) and Clarke (10) scored 10 or more.

The duel was resolved in the last five minutes and more specifically in the last instant. Memphis Grizzlies, always in control on the scoreboard, were up 8 (102-110) with 3:40 to play after a basket by Jones.

From there, San Antonio Spurs rolled up their sleeves and went to work to turn the game around: Dejounte Murray (33+13+3) and Keldon Johnson (23+7+4) brought their team to within one point (111-112) with 27 seconds left.

Memphis missed the next shot, but Johnson also missed for the Spurs: he penetrated to the basket with a free lane and missed the layup.

The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the San Antonio Spurs, who had struggled to a 10th-place finish in the Western Conference.

The last Play-In spot was in their hands, snatching it from an unhinged Los Angeles Lakers, who now regain it after this Texan stumble, albeit by the slimmest of margins.

The Lakers must change the pace and not slip anymore, although it will not be easy, with a tough schedule where they face four teams with a balance of more than 50% of victories: Utah, Denver twice, Phoenix, and Golden State Warriors. In addition, a direct rival like New Orleans. Only Oklahoma seems easy.
