New Orleans Pelicans advanced in the Play-In and will have one more life to try to get into the NBA Playoffs. San Antonio Spurs could not defeat the team of the bird and fell by 113-103. The Pelicans will have to face the Los Angeles Clippers. And become the opponent of the Phoenix Suns in the first round of the Western Conference.

CJ McCollum was the great architect of the victory of the New Orleans team. They were leading by 21 points with four minutes left in the third quarter. And that ended up asking for the hour before the comeback of the Texans in the last quarter.

The shooting guard had a huge first half, scoring 27 of his 32 points in the first two quarters. McCollum, who scored 12 of his 23 shots from the field, was also key during the final quarter.

New Orleans Pelicans also counted on a good Brandon Ingram (27 points) and the interior strength of Jonas Valanciunas. Valanciunas finished with a double-double of 22+14.

The particular Big Three of the Louisiana franchise made them forget Zion Williamson’s season-long absence.

San Antonio was left out and Popovich did not define his future

For the San Antonio Spurs, the best was Devin Vassell with 23 points and 7 of 13 from three-point range. However, the Texans got more offensive production from their best player, Dejounte Murray. He finished with 16 points and only 1 of 5 three-pointers. In addition, the San Antonio team lacked a physical defense capable of slowing down Valanciunas in the paint.

Gregg Popovich did not want to reveal his future after this loss. But the shadow of retirement looms over him. After becoming the coach with the most wins in NBA history.

The San Antonio Spurs coach reached 1,336 games won in the NBA regular season. But at 73 years of age, it is not known if he will continue to lead the team.

New Orleans Pelicans advanced in the Play-In and will have to play against Los Angeles Clippers next Saturday. Whoever wins that game will enter the NBA Playoffs. They will face the Phoenix Suns. The best team in the Western Conference and the NBA ring candidate.
