NBA – Memphis sweeps Golden State and asserts itself as second in the standings | Playon99 News

The Grizzlies proved once again that they are contenders in the NBA Playoffs: they ruined the Golden State Warriors who did not even have a chance in the whole game. Without Morant and Jackson Jr, the Memphis Warriors are a historic team.

By Facundo Di Bona (@facudibona).

The difference was abysmal between Memphis Grizzlies and Golden State Warriors, even without Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. in a game that the home team won 123-95.

The Warriors were also without Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson, so they had a tough time in a game against one of the NBA Playoff contenders.

The game was set for Memphis Grizzlies by halftime with a 63-37 score and a 20+ difference taken out in the second quarter.

A lot of clouds right now in Golden State: the return of Andre Iguodala, tortured by back problems and excess of years did not bring too much joy.

Steve Kerr was ejected at the end of the first half and between Poole (25+5+3), Moody (18+3) and Kuminga (15+7+4) put some young pride for a Warriors that are seeing a very bad version of Andrew Wiggins, precisely since the forward was starting in the NBA All Star Game.

Memphis Grizzlies are 53-23 and for the first time 30 games over 50% since closing at 56-26 in what is so far the best NBA regular season in their history.

If they go 4-2, they’ll reach 57 wins for the first time, but it doesn’t matter too much: their footprint is already very deep this season.

They’ve scored at least 120 points in eight of their last 10 games. They just strung together three wins by a margin of at least 25 for the first time and are now 13 for the season.

The same as Golden State Warriors in 2016-17 and only behind, since the NBA-ABA merger, the 15 that San Antonio Spurs totaled in 2015-16. Big words.

They close a four-game home stretch with four wins by an average difference of 23.8 points and have won the last eight games on their home court.

Where all but Phoenix Suns will have to win out to eliminate them in the NBA Playoffs. It’s an extraordinary season, an earthquake that is moving full speed ahead towards the playoffs. Watch out, be very careful with these Grizzlies. Whoever the opponent is.

The playoff implications are significant: Memphis Grizzlies (53-23) has the second spot in the Western Conference and the entire NBA locked up.

Only against Phoenix Suns would they have no home-court factor in the Playoffs. If there was any chance for the Warriors to reach the second spot, it died in this game, but Golden State had better look back: they are 48-28, have three straight losses and six in seven games, Curry’s return is not imminent and Dallas Mavericks is already a game and a half behind.

Being fourth takes away home-court advantage, in theory, beyond the first round, but, much worse, sends them to a Western semifinal showdown against the untouchable Phoenix Suns.

The Warriors’ late-week firecracker collided with the unstoppable pace of the Grizzlies, who have won five straight and nine in 10 games. And who are already an incredible 18-2 in the 20 games Ja Morant has missed.

Desmond Bane -22 points- and Dillon Brooks -21- led the scoring before going to rest. They were joined by De’Anthony Melton who poured in 21 points and 5-of-9 on three-pointers, and is 27-of-54 from the three-point line in his last six games.
