NBA – Jokic is a Martian and steers the Nuggets ship | Playon99 News

Denver Nuggets defeated New Orleans Pelicans in overtime thanks to a brilliant performance by Nikola Jokic. The NBA MVP in 2021 signed a triple-double and registered almost impossible numbers for any player in the National Basketball Association.

Nikola Jokic, reigning NBA regular season MVP, is racing from day zero to repeat the same accomplishment he achieved last season and in his Denver Nuggets’ 138-130 win over the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Nuggets, without their second-best player -Jamal Murray- for the whole season and without their third-best -Michel Porter Jr- for most of it, are sixth in the Western Conference with a 38-26 record and one win away from fifth place.

It’s all basically thanks to Jokic, who is averaging 25.8 points, 13.8 rebounds, 8 assists, 1.4 steals, and 57.1% shooting from the field, numbers that no one has reached in a full season in all of NBA history.

On days like today and in wins like tonight’s against the New Orleans Pelicans, one is reminded why Jokic was NBA MVP and why he could very well be again for a second straight year.

Denver Nuggets, who built a 21-point lead in the first quarter, saw their lead vanish by the time the third quarter ended.

The New Orleans Pelicans are no longer just anybody: they had won their last four games by a 26.8-point lead against teams like the Phoenix Suns and Utah Jazz.

When in the third quarter the referees ejected Nuggets coach Mike Malone for two technicals, along with two more for DeMarcus Cousins and Bryn Forbes, they saw their opponents’ lead go into double digits.

Totally out of the game, the win was in serious jeopardy. Too bad for the Pelicans that facing them was one of the best in the NBA: Nikola Jokic.

Jokic stepped up to the plate and took over absolutely everything in the final quarter. The result was a 10-point comeback to take the game into overtime.

There is no player these days who can do everything as well as Jokic. He finished with his 17th triple-double of the season: 46 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists, plus 3 steals, 4 blocks, an insane 72.7% shooting from the field, 60% on three-pointers, and 91.7% on free throws.

It is his second triple-double of 40 points when the other players of the Colorado franchise in its history had done something like that only once: Micahel Adams in 1991.

In overtime, a triple had left the New Orleans Pelicans -who went up 126-130 and did not score again, conceding a 12-0 deficit- and Denver Nuggets took the game with tremendous suffering.
