Gobert had his desired night with blocks and blocks on Doncic. The Mavs were not able to face the Jazz of Mitchell and the Frenchman.

Luka Doncic ran into Rudy Gobert, the NBA’s best defender, and Dallas Mavericks lost 114-109 to the visiting Utah Jazz.
The Slovenian star finished with 23 points (8/24 in shooting including 3/9 in three-pointers), 7 rebounds and 11 assists, but in the last minutes he could not handle Gobert, who was in charge of his defense.
First, he left him with no room to get to the hoop and the Mavs ended up taking a bad shot at the buzzer. In the next action, the Slovenian had it even worse: he took a block. In total he lost 3 of 4 personal duels to Rudy.

The Jazz limited their opponent to just one basket in the last three minutes. Gobert, who finished with 14 points, 17 rebounds and 3 blocks, was behind it.
The center, questioned at times about his big five-season, $205 million contract, defended himself on the court by blocking a huge player like Doncic and in front of the microphones by explaining that perception doesn’t match the numbers.

His opponent in this matchup did not go home happy. Luka Doncic was not left with the bad game they played, but with the idea that the referee did not charge him two fouls.
Anyway, when he was asked about the referee, he was referring to he said that he didn’t want to be fined.

The point guard also had a run-in with a Utah fan: Doncic received insults from the stands and replied with “thanks for paying to see me”.
If Gobert was a wall, Donovan Mitchell was the Utah Jazz’s enforcer on offense. He finished the game with 33 points and 7 of 12 three-pointers.
The @utahjazz win at home as Donovan Mitchell drops 17 PTS in the second half to lift them to victory!

After Doncic, the Mavs’ best players were Dwight Powell -who scored 22 points- and newcomers Spencer Dinwiddie (20) and Davis Bertans (17). Between the latter two they made 8 of 12 three-pointers, but to no avail.
In a game that could be played in the Playoffs, Utah Jazz took advantage of the fourth position in the Western Conference, while Dallas Mavericks was left truncated below their rivals on this day.
