Dallas Mavericks defeated Utah Jazz with another demonstration of control by Luka Doncic. The Slovenian dominated the game from start to finish and gave his team the victory against those who could be their rivals in the Playoffs on the road to the NBA Finals.

By Facundo Di Bona (@facudibona).

Luka Doncic was once again the central figure of Dallas Mavericks in the 111-103 victory over Utah Jazz, a team with whom they can cross paths in the Playoffs.

If the meeting is repeated, all the NBA condiments will already be on the table: duel, victories for both, revenge, different streaks, and statements with the referees.

Doncic signed a double-double of 35 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals with 5 of 11 in three-pointers, close to 50%, 12 of 23 from the field, and already averages 35.8 in this NBA regular season, where he is a strong candidate for the MVP award.

The Mavs’ previous loss to the Utah Jazz made it clear that this would be a special matchup and they will likely meet again in the playoffs for a spot in the NBA Finals.

Utah Jazz (40-24) is far from third place in the Western Conference, which is occupied by a stagnant Golden State Warriors (43-22) because they are three wins behind.

The Dallas Mavericks (40-25), who are fourth, look set to play for that spot against the Denver Nuggets (39-26), who improved from earlier in the season.

Utah and Dallas, after today’s result, are only one loss apart. They would go head-to-head if the regular season ended now. There will be no respite in the remaining month for these four teams, or if any of them wants to play God in the realm of mortals by losing games to have a more accessible crossover.

Yesterday’s NBA duel had Doncic’s best rebounding mark of the season and against a terror on the boards like Rudy Gobert (12+13), with whom he keeps alive those little disputes that took him out of his previous game and prevented the Frenchman from dominating this one.

Doncic’s absence against Sacramento Kings was largely fixed by Spencer Dinwiddie with scoring and Dorian Finney-Smith with the decisive shot, and here between the two of them, they put up 44 points to help the Slovenian put up barriers for the Jazz.

The defense was, however, more important to slow down Donovan Mitchell and Mike Conley, who contributed very little for Utah Jazz, while Bojan Bogdanovic (21+2+4) was the top scorer on the team.

Dallas Mavericks had the scoreboard under control at all times, even when they lost the last quarter -the only one in the game- totally relaxed by the advantage.

The 30-24, 60-49, and 85-64, in the first three quarters were decisive in the development and for the tranquility of Doncic and his Dallas Mavericks.

Now all that remains is to wait for the NBA regular season to end and the Playoffs to begin, but before knowing if Dallas and Utah will cross paths in a 7-game series, there is one game left on the road and March 27 is the date.
