Brooklyn Nets won a key game against Charlotte Hornets with a stellar performance from Kyrie Irving to show the NBA that he is still one of the best players in the league. The New York team found calm after the storm.

Brooklyn Nets bounced back with a hard-fought 132-121 victory that relied purely and exclusively on Kyrie Irving’s talent to score time and time again.

Irving signed a tremendous record of 50 points, 3 rebounds, and 6 assists, in a formidable performance that once again confirms that if the Brooklyn Nets would have their star to play home games in New York the story would be different.

After four straight losses, the Nets were in trouble and had a record below 50% wins (32-33), sharing even the tenth place in the Eastern Conference with Atlanta Hawks and Charlotte Hornets, tonight’s opponent.

The game in North Carolina was vital for what has left ahead and to continue to aspire to the Play-In in a few places that day by day are getting smaller and smaller.

This win gives Brooklyn a much-needed breather. With Kevin Durant’s injury and with Irving playing only away games, they had accumulated too many defeats and had got into a fight, not to fall out of the Play-In positions, in which it was unimaginable to see them.

Since Durant returned two games ago, Brooklyn Nets did not react either. It is true that they had two very difficult games against Miami Heats and Boston Celtics, but the feeling was growing that maybe this team had entered in a losing dynamic too dangerous.

Kyrie Irving was in charge of putting those ghosts away at least for a day. The game the point guard played in Charlotte is one of those unique gems you see from time to time in the NBA.

What happened to give Brooklyn Nets the victory was not normal: Irving finished the game against Charlotte Hornets with 50 points on just 19 shots, making 78.9% of his shots, including 9 of 12 three-pointers.

He is the fifth player since there is a possession clock to score more than 50 points in a game and 75% shooting from the field, adding that of the other four there is only one outside: Michael Jordan.

It is also the third game in which Irving reached 50 points with the Brooklyn Nets, where no other player has more than one with the New York franchise.

What Irving did was crucial for the Nets because below him as top scorer there were three from Charlotte Hornets: Miles Bridges (30+3+3), Terry Rozier (30+8+4), and LaMelo Ball (24+5+7).

With this victory, Brooklyn Nets pulled away, if only a little, from Charlotte Hornets and Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern Conference. Irving’s performance gave them peace of mind, but they cannot be left alone in an NBA where everyone wants the top spot.
