In the match of the day in the NBA, Brooklyn Nets stomped Philadelphia 76ers with almost 30 points of advantage in a crossover full of bombs. Embiid and Durant went toe-to-toe, Harden struggled against his former team and Simmons was booed by the entire arena.

The game between the Philadelphia 76ers and Brooklyn Nets was not what was expected: the Nets’ thrashing surprised everyone, with a resounding 129-100 victory led by Kevin Durant against Joel Embiid and James Harden, his former teammate.

Brooklyn Nets played a dream game and showed that they can be the same team that was the best in the East in the first part of the NBA regular season. It remains to be seen if they can play the same game against the current finalists and such compact teams: Milwaukee Bucks and Phoenix Suns.

The atmosphere was NBA Playoffs at the Sixers’ Wells Fargo Center, with the spice of Ben Simmons’ visit to Philadelphia after his tumultuous departure from the team in the trade for Harden.

With Brooklyn Nets building a 75-51 lead and playing spectacular offense and defense, the game was settled as the teams went into halftime.

The Nets hit 56% of their shots from the field and 45% of their three-pointers, while the Sixers were limited to 32.3% from the field and just 26 points in the paint, a little too gaudy for them.

Durant was outstanding with 25 points, 14 rebounds and 7 assists, while Kyrie Irving contributed 24 points and 5 assists and Seth Curry, another who played against his former team, was the bench factor with b points and 5 steals.

For such a difference it was key that from the bench they added so much: between James Johnson and Patty Mills signed 26 points.

Embiid was the top scorer with a double-double of 27 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists, but the key to Brooklyn Nets overcoming Philadelphia 76ers was in the hands of Durant, a player who since his return proved to be the most decisive in the NBA.

Philadelphia saw a really weak version of Harden -11+5+4 and 3 of 17 from the field- a Tyrese Maxey off -4 points, his lowest scoring figure in the regular season since May 2021- and an Embiid, who was a nuisance and well defended, who only managed to generate danger with free throws (15-19): he shot 5 of 17 from the field, forced to shoot from the outside.

On the court, the morbidity was growing: first Embiid and Durant faced each other in the first quarter, then the Nets sent Simmons to warm up -a strange decision by Steve Nash? – and Harden was very weak against a former team in which he almost didn’t even greet Irving and Kevin.

This win leaves Brooklyn with a 34-33 record, still in eighth place in the Eastern Conference and 5 games away from the direct qualification zone for the NBA Playoffs.

Philadelphia 76ers remain third in the East with their good 40-25, but missed the chance to climb to the second place that is in the hands of Milwaukee Bucks.
