Atlanta Hawks, with 24 points and 10 assists from Trae Young, crushed Charlotte Hornets 132-103. And they already have a date with Cleveland Cavaliers in the second and final round of the Play-In. At 5 o’clock tomorrow, they will face each other to find out who will get the ticket to the NBA Playoffs.

It was a match-up between teams that had the same record in the regular season. And they had also shared the four direct clashes between them. But in the decisive moment, the Atlanta Hawks’ depth emerged. In which up to six players finished with more than 13 points.

In addition to Young’s 24 points, DeAndre Hunter scored 22 points. And 16 of those came in the third quarter. Danilo Gallinari signed 18, Clint Capela contributed 15 and Kevin Huerter and Bogdan Bogdanovic chipped in with 13 points apiece.

Charlotte Hornets closed their season with a game that did not live up to their performance in recent weeks. After winning 7 of 9 games down the stretch of the NBA regular season.

LaMelo Ball contributed 26 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. But his team was never able to compete with the Atlanta Hawk’s winning hunger. The home court factor was also a key factor.

Stars went unnoticed

Ball for the Hornets and Young for the Hawks, the stars of each team, got off to a slow start. But it was Kevin Huerter who led Atlanta with 10 points and 3 of 3 three pointers. Which went on to give his team a 13-point lead at 29-16 in the first quarter.

Clint Capela, with 10 points and 6 rebounds in the opening quarter, gave the Charlotte Hornets a scare. LaMello Ball accumulated just 3 points and Miles Bridges only 2.

Atlanta Hawks led 60-52 at halftime. And despite Trae Young’s 3 of 13 shooting with only 8 points.

Backed by their crowd, Atlanta Hawks accelerated in a forceful way in the opening of the third quarter. And they increased the margin to 79-63 with a powerful dunk by Capela that left the Charlotte Hornets on the ropes.

So hard was the blow that the third period ended with a resounding 102-76 that sentenced the Hornets. While the Hawks didn’t let off the gas. But they played calmer.

Atlanta Hawks passed with merit the first test of this Play-In and will need another win. This time on the road against Cleveland Cavaliers. To earn the right to enter the NBA Playoffs. And challenge the Miami Heat, kings of the Eastern Conference.
