Mourinho was sent off for going off on the referee. Roma equalized in agonizing fashion and the Portuguese exploded against the judge amid a serious charge for Serie A.

Jose Mourinho has made a mess of Serie A once again. The Roma coach lost his temper in the final minutes of his team’s clash with Hellas Verona at the Olympic Stadium.

The match was a heart-stopping affair: Roma came from 2-0 down in the final minutes of the game with goals from homegrown players Cristian Volpato and Edoardo Bove, just five minutes from time.

Mourinho grew in fury as the match wore on and the momentary slump took him to extreme levels. When his team equalized, his head went completely out of his head.

The Special One went for a ball loitering in his technical area and kicked it violently. Evidently, the situation caught the referee’s attention.

When Mou saw that he caught his attention he made the phone gesture with his hand and, according to La Stampa, told the referee, Luca Pairetto:

“You were sent off on purpose, you were sent off by Juve.”

Mourinho was sent off by Pairetto and the coach left the field giving directions and apologizing to his Hellas Verona colleague, who had nothing to do with the situation.

The Italian press points to a three-match ban for repeat offenders, so the Roma coach will miss the matches against Spezia, Atalanta, and Udinese.

With the capital club, Mou has gone five games without defeat since the day they lost 3-4 to Juventus, but the last three matches were draws.

After a good start to the season, Roma are in 8th place in Serie A and the arrival of the Portuguese coach was questioned.

As of today, and having started the season with the objective of qualifying for the Champions League, the team is two points behind Lazio -their main rivals- without even being able to reach a spot in the less attractive UEFA Conference League.

In the same continental competition, Jose Mourinho’s men are waiting for the first phase of the direct confrontations to be resolved.

Roma finished top of their group and advanced directly to the Round of 16, a round that also includes the teams that drop out of the UEFA Europa League.
