Danny Morrison names Kieron Pollard as “most-overrated” cricketer

Former New Zealand cricket Danny Morrison has named Kieron Pollard as the “most-overrated” cricketer of the current generation.

The West Indian has captained his side in limited-overs cricket since 2019 and is also considered as one of the most lethal players in the T20 format. He has also played a crucial role for Indian Premier League (IPL) side Mumbai Indians over the years.

One of the reasons behind Morrison’s opinion could be Kieron Pollard’s recent form and his below-par performances during the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup.

The WI captain was recently retained by the Mumbai Indians ahead of the 15th edition of the IPL and is set to play for the five-time winners earning a sweet salary of INR 6 crores.

In the same interview, Morrison also revealed who he thinks are the most underrated cricketers in the world, and named Indian pair Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan as cricketers who deserve more recognition for their skill.

“He would like to get a lit bit of more opportunities,” Morrison said for Kishan. “I can’t believe he hasn’t played more for India. I think it’s just because of a different era, but I have seen him,” he added when talking about Yadav.

Both batsmen have been impressed with their performances and have emerged as some of the most promising players for India. However, neither player have made India’s squad for the upcoming Test series against South Africa which starts on December 26.

Morrison also revealed who his favourite IPL franchise is during the interview. He picked Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as his favourite team and also expressed his desire to play for MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

RCB had a run great in the 2020 edition of the IPL, with Glen Maxwell and Harshal Patel turning out performances that left everyone impressed. Patel, in particular, made a name for himself with his bowling and his flair in the death overs. And it was not surprising when he was awarded the ‘Purple Cap’ for his performances for he finished as the highest wicket-taker of the tournament.

The former cricketer also revealed that Jasprit Bumrah and Shahid Afridi are his current favourite players in the world.
