The Indian Cricketer Mohammad Azhar (former Indian Captain of the Indian Cricket Team) has shared his views on recent developments regarding the ODI series and the unavailability of Rohit Sharma.
He suspected the timing of Virat Kohli‘s break from the ODIs and Rohit Sharma’s injury ahead of the Test series that is going to be held in South Africa and confirms the speculations about a rift between the two legends.
Azharuddin took to social media to express concern over Kohli’s break and Sharma’s injury. He tweeted
“Virat Kohli has informed that he’s not available for the ODI series & Rohit Sharma is unavailable fr d upcoming test. There is no harm in taking a break but d timing has to be better. This just substantiates speculation abt d rift. Neither will be giving up d another form of cricket,”
However, in a recent, Virat Kohli has refuted BCCI President Sourav Ganguly saying that no communication was made to him regarding not giving up the T20I captaincy. He also dismissed reports about being skipping out of the South Africa tour. In a recent statement released by Rohit, he said,
“A batter of his quality is always needed in the squad. To have an average of 50 plus in the T20 format, it is crazy and unreal. Obviously, with the experience, Kohli batted and bailed India out so many times from difficult situations,”.
The former India cricketer Kirti Azad expressed her concerns over the remarks publically and feels that Mohammad Azhar being a veteran and a responsible player shouldn’t have made such remarks and that too publically.
Azharuddin has shared his views on these developments and questioned the timing of Rohit’s loss before the check sequence and Kohli’s break from ODIs. Mohammad Azhar said that there is no harm in taking a break but talking about such times only confirms the speculations about a rift between the two superstars of Indian cricket.
According to reports, all is not well between the two senior players. This is since the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chose distinct captains for white-ball and red-ball cricket. The news of a rift between two sports legends in the country, Kohli and Sharma, is not new, but such a ruckus has never happened on social media. Fans from all across the country created a ruckus on social media. The board was unwilling to have two different captains in the limited overs format after Kohli stepped down as the T20 captain and when it became a big blow when BCCI declared Rohit Sharma to be Indian team’s T20 captain as well as new ODI captain.
In a tweet, a fan expressed saying:
“today Virat said Sourav Ganguly never spoke to him about t20 captaincy…Did Saurav Ganguly Lie…??? Come and Clarify Sourav Ganguly”.
