Mancini is confident with Italy: “We will win the World Cup”

Italy will play for qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and Mancini is confident that ¡they will win it! The coach spoke about his chances and presented the call for this week’s training with the surprise return of Balotelli.

Italy still have a tough road ahead of them to secure their place at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, but Roberto Mancini is blindly confident in his team’s chances of qualifying.

The coach is convinced not only that they will be in the final phase, but also that they can lift the cup in December this year.

After the last World Cup date did not include Italy in Russia 2018, the Azzurra had the chance to qualify in the last two rounds of the Qualifiers, but drew in an unusual way against Switzerland and Northern Ireland, forcing them to play the playoff

They will first have to face North Macedonia in March and then, if they win, they will have the grand final with the possibility of a powerful: Portugal or Turkey.

Mancini is not worried and made it clear in dialogue with La Gazzetta dello Sport:

“It has been a splendid Christmas as European champions. In January we will start thinking about what we have to do in March. Although there is not much to think about”.

Beyond that, the coach regretted having to play this playoff system to enter the World Cup:

“Above all I say to myself: ‘Look what we’ve thrown…’. It was enough for us to win the first game against Switzerland and we dominated, but I also think that during qualifying and the European Championship everything went well for us and it’s normal that sooner or later something goes wrong. That’s football”.

Italy won Euro 2021 and was clearly superior to the rest, in addition to a great unbeaten record that serves as a basis for being a favorite in the next duels:

“We will be there because we are strong. Because we were the best team in the European Championship, because we deservedly won, because we have only lost once in the last three years”.

His faith is unshakable and when they ask him if he will leave the position if he does not qualify for the World Cup, his answer is forceful and he was encouraged to go further:

“I don’t think so. I think we will win the World Cup”.

Mancini also touched on the situation of some of Italy’s players, including Gianluiggi Donnarumma, who is not getting many chances at PSS:

“Gigio is the best goalkeeper in the world. It seems very strange to me and I regret that he doesn’t play continuously because that is essential in a goalkeeper”.

About Jorginho, a player who was among the best of 2021 according to L’Equipe and who also won the Champions League with Chelsea, he assured:

“For everything he did, he deserved the Ballon d’Or. I am convinced of that”.

The Italian national team will have a pre-playoff stop next week and the coach has already delivered a list of those summoned to train in an Italian field.

With the recent injury of Federico Chiesa and the confirmation that he will be absent for several months, Mancini presented a call with surprises and notable rotation to test for the most important duels in March.

The most striking thing is the return of Mario Balotelli, currently in Turkey’s Adama Demirspor and absent in Italy since 2018, as well as the inclusions of Marco Carnesecchi, Mattia De Sciglio, Giorgio Scalvini, Luca Pellegrini, Nicoló Fagioli, Federico Ricci, Davide Frattesi , Mattia Zaccagni and the nationalized Luiz Felipe and Joao Pedro.
