For the 7th time in his career, Messi has won the Ballon d’Or.

On Tuesday, Lionel Messi won the Ballon d’Or for the seventh time in his career, capping off a stellar last season with Barcelona and capturing his first major international prize with Argentina.

After losing in four major international championships, Messi, 34, led Argentina to the Copa America triumph in July.

“I’m really glad to be here,” he added via a translator, “and happy to keep battling for new prizes.”

“I’m not sure how many years I have left, but I’m expecting a lot more. “I’d want to thank all of my(former) Barcelona and Argentina teammates,” he said.

He finished first with 613 points, ahead of Bayern Munich attacker Robert Lewandowski (580).
