Ligue 1 – Nice is the stone in PSG’s shoes | Playon99 News

Paris Saint-Germain can’t beat Galtier’s Nice. The last Ligue 1 champion coach again closed a clean sheet against PSG and now also beat them to put himself as a wall against Messi, Neymar, and company.

By Facundo Di Bona (@facudibona).

There is no life without Kylian Mbappé. That’s the message PSG received after their last-minute defeat against Nice thanks to a goal from Andy Delort.

Paris Saint-Germain had a rather sluggish game overall and ended up going down with what saved them so much this season: an 85th-minute goal.

Christophe Galtier, Ligue 1 champion the previous season when he managed Lille, was crowned the bête noire of Mauricio Pochettino and PSG because his team has not even conceded a goal in the three matches it could play against the Parisians this season.

With two goalless draws and a Coupe de France elimination on penalties, Nice were due to host Paris Saint-Germain in the hope that they would get something more out of the bag.

The first half at the Allianz Riviera was the clearest demonstration of why PSG are obsessed with renewing Kylian Mbappé: without the French international, suspended for accumulation of cards, the Parisians did not intimidate Walter Benitez’s goal during the first 45 minutes.

Except for a one-on-one from Angel Di Maria – he still does not know if he will renew his contract – that the goalkeeper repelled with a beautiful save. Benítez, a goalkeeper from Quilmes in Argentina, has been saying for a long time that he should have at least one chance in goal for the Argentine national team.

Nice, a pain in the neck this season for PSG, repeated the 4-4-2 formation that had been so successful in the domestic cup match and made life difficult for their opponents, especially on the right flank, as Thilo Kehrer, who started due to Achraf Hakimi’s injury, had no help from Di Maria in the first half.

The clearest chances in the first half belonged to the home side in the hands of Amine Gouiri, a young star of Nice and Ligue 1, who missed two tremendous opportunities on the left flank and Keylor Navas had to intervene to cut out two dangerous crosses down the right flank by Justin Kluivert.

Neymar Jr. and Lionel Messi, kept at arm’s length by Pochettino’s system, could barely combine and succumbed to the spider’s web designed by Galtier, a master of withdrawal in France.

Nice’s spectacular defensive work once again proved a stumbling block in the second half for Paris Saint-Germain, who continued to have the same problems in attack and without Mbappé had virtually no depth.

Neymar again left Di Maria alone in the closing stages, but an immeasurable Jean-Clair Todibo prevented the Argentine from getting one-on-one with Walter Benitez.

Late on, just as PSG were looking to draw level, Andy Delort took advantage of a great cross from Calvin Stengs on the left to beat Keylor Navas with a lovely finish into the top corner.

Soccer has these things and Paris has a stone in its shoe called Nice, today bottom of this Dream Team in Ligue 1, who also beat them in the Champions League qualifiers against Real Madrid.
