Is India OR Pakistan qualifying for FIFA World Cup 2022?

Date:

SHARE POST

As per India’s performance in 2018 World Cup qualification, India were seen last in their group and placed alongside Iran, Turkmenistan, Oman and Guam.

Every Indian would like to see India play in the World Cup which is not happening anytime soon and all we can do is keep supporting the Indian team so that the moment we dream of is not far away.

Now looking at the last World Cup qualification, the year 2021 was much better. India started with a match against Oman and they lost 2–1 to a historic goalless draw against Asian champions Qatar in Doha and a 1–1 draw against Bangladesh in Afghanistan, only to lose against Oman. where they were defeated by 1–0.

It is clear that India is not playing in the FIFA World Cup 2022, which is why it is currently in third place and it is impossible for the Indian team to reach the first or second place. So precisely India is not playing in the 2022 World Cup, but if they stay in the third place, they will go straight to the third round of the Asian Cup Qualifiers in 2023.

The good news is that the Indian Football team has qualified AFC Asian Cup Football Championship which is for the third round of  2023, but further progress in the event will depend on whether the national team gets access to important games, says head coach Igor Stimac. How much time will be given for preparation?

During a virtual press interview, Stimac:

“If we make sure that we get enough time to prepare for the games, then we might expect good football and good results. Otherwise, we’re going to gamble. As simple as that because our players will start twice a season now”

On February 1st the round (Third) of the qualifiers will take place while Stimac said that there will be a proper plan before the tournament.

Stimac continued:

“Who are we going to play against; we don’t know our group yet. But obviously, we need to prepare ourselves because our first game will be on  1 February 2022. And if we want to succeed in such qualifiers, which we are going to play out of the FIFA window — because the February schedule is not part of the FIFA window — then we need to prepare now”.

On the Pakistan side, it is already disappointing as Pakistan have already missed out on the 2023 Asian Cup (AFC) and also the 2022 FIFA World Cup, this was lost against Cambodia twice in the first round and were knocked out.

Apart from this, Stimac said that he needs to sit with the stakeholders in domestic competitions and discuss in time for the national team to prepare for such important events or tournaments. By preparing and planning with good time management, the team can get some good results. Otherwise, it would be a total gamble.

He (Stimac) expressed concern about the third round match of the qualifiers in February, wanting to make sure that all players are to released from the club to play these games.
