IPL2022: KL Rahul fined 20% match fee, while Marcus Stoinis reprimanded for breaching code of conduct during LSG vs RCB match.

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s defeat was not enough for Lucknow Super Giants that the KL Rakul-led side was fined 20 percent of their match fees in another incident, with Marcus Stoinis reprimanded for breaching the IPL code of conduct.

In the match against RCB, LSG won the toss but they decided to bowl as per the rituals being followed by other teams in the current IPL league. But who knew that RCB captain Faf du Plessis would shine this time with 96 off 64 balls and help his team set a decent target of 181 runs.

Then came the opportunity to bat for the Lucknow Super Giants, except Krunal’s Pandya’s 42 off 28, and the skipper KL Rahul’s 30 off 24 balls, there was none to hold the match till the target was achieved.

But there was a time when Marcus Stoinis came out to bat and gave a glimmer of hope to the LSG team by hitting powerful strokes across the stadium, but the player’s mindset got out of focus when a ball delivered by Josh Hazelwood went wide but wasn’t judged that way.Agitated by the decision,Stonis while shuffling the next bowl outside the stumps was caught by the short wicket fielder (Krunal Pandya). While returning back to pavilion,Stonis losing his cool, expressed his dismay in no uncertain terms, which eventually led to the IPL management committee reprimanding the player for his behaviour.–marcus-stoinis-six?tagNames=2022

An official release made by IPL confirmed the breach of the IPL Code of Conduct which is of Level 1 category and further stated that both the players have accepted the sanctions.

Eventually, after the match the post-presentation ceremony, KL Rahul congratulated the RCB team especially the RCB skipper for well constructing the game saying,

“We have all seen Faf playing over the years and he is really a good player, not only of spin but overall as well. He played a wonderful inning. I don’t think it was an easy wicket to bat on but the way he constructed his innings, was really good. That’s something we as a batting unit, one of us in the top three or four had to do and bat till the last over,”

He further added,

“Unfortunately, we couldn’t string into those partnerships. It was a very good knock from Faf and being a captain, it was one of the best captains innings he could have played,”

“They kept us under pressure despite losing wickets. Maxwell and Faf, when they were batting were always positive and trying to be aggressive. They put our bowlers under pressure and got some loose balls and they put them away,”

Implementing the strategy, KL Rahul said that they went too far ahead with their tactics being unpredictable but their ultimate goal was to squeeze the RCBs and that is something we should learn from.

“At times we went too far ahead with our tactics that we don’t want to be predictable. We needed to put a squeeze on them and that’s something we need to learn going forward as a team,”

At the IPL points table the Lucknow Super Giants is sitting at 4th position and will be looking forward to step forward directly on the top in the match against the 5-time IPL champions, Mumbai Indians on 24th April. The MIs are sitting right at the bottom of the points table.
