IPL Auction: A Former Indian Batsman PRAISES The Punjab Kings’ Strategy and Names This Indian As Captain | Playon99 News

With the biggest purse value, Punjab Kings finally started the auction to rope in some quality Indian and foreign players to make a strong team. Overall, the team picked 23 players in the auction, which included some of the key players like Jonny Bairstow, Liam Livingstone, Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada.

With KL Rahul being the new captain of Lucknow Super Giants has left Punjab Kings to dry leaving no choice but to lookout for a new captain.

Former Indian cricket team legend Sunil Gavaskar had something to say on this matter. He urged that the franchise should look for someone with a future in mind while appointing their next captain. He added that Mayank Agarwal may be handed over the command as he is just 31 years old, unlike Dhawan who is 36 and may not be a long-term option for captaincy.

Lauding the young and energetic player Mayank, Gavaskar said that the player is young and he is someone who can be trusted to hand over the leadership. He said that Dhawan is 36 years old and handing over the captaincy to him may not work for long. Gavaskar has heaped praise on the youngster, saying he has many years of cricket left to stay young and confident, and on top.

Addressing the Sports today media, he said,

“I will look at the future, and I look at Mayank Agarwal. Because I do believe that Mayank has got leadership qualities. He speaks well, he is a hardworking individual. He wants to get better than yesterday. He is very very very enthusiastic. He is a real team man. We can see that when he is playing for India. He is always ready to hop on to the field, even when he isn’t in the XI,”

He further added,

“So every aspect I think, Mayank Agarwal is somebody Punjab Kings should look as captain. And who knows, he could be considered in the future for national captaincy if he is consistent with his performances,”

Dhawan has been a full-time captain in the IPL in the past and led Punjab Kings in a match last season when Rahul suffered a major blow to his left hamstring. Dhawan has also led the Indian team in a few matches, but with age not in his favor, it will be a tough decision for the Punjab Kings to take in terms of captaincy.
