In the Indonesia Open Badminton, PV Sindhu and K Srikanth will attempt to maintain momentum.



Bali, Pretr. Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu and former world number one male player Kidambi Srikanth will look to maintain their momentum in the Indonesia Open badminton tournament, starting Tuesday.
After reaching the semi-finals at the Indonesia Masters Super 750, the two top Indian players will start their campaign in the World Tour Super 1000 event in their quest for the title. Sindhu’s campaign at the Indonesia Masters last week ended with a straight game win by Akane Yamaguchi of Japan.This experienced player will try to recover from this defeat as soon as possible. Third seed Sindhu will open her campaign against Japan’s Aya Ohori and if she manages to make the opening round, she is likely to face sixth seed Michelle Lee of Canada in the quarterfinals.

In men’s singles, former number one Srikkanth has also shown signs of being on track by reaching the semi-finals of two successive tournaments. The player, who won four titles in 2017, would like to end the long title drought. Srikanth may once again face compatriot HS Prannoy in the opening round.He defeated Prannoy in the quarter-finals of the Indonesia Masters. Prannoy, who was infected with Corona last year, defeated Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Danish legend Viktor Axelsen before losing the match against Srikanth. World ranking 16th-ranked B Sai Praneeth will begin his campaign against France’s Toma Junior Povov.

Lakshya Sen will face a tough challenge from top seed and two-time world champion Kento Momota in his opening match. Parupalli Kashyap will take on Loh Kean Yew of Singapore in the first round. Among other Indians, sixth seeded men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty got a bye in the first round, while MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila will take on Korea’s Choi Seolgyu and Kim Won Ho.Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy will face fifth seeded Bulgarian pair of Gabriella Stoeva and Stephanie Stoeva in women’s doubles. Apart from Ashwini and B Sumeeth Reddy, Indian pairs of Sikki Reddy and Dhruv and Juhi Devangan and Venkata Gaurav Prasad will present the challenge in the mixed doubles.
