India’s cricket team did not go the distance at the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia after being eliminated by England in the second semi-final. The result dashed the team’s hopes of lifting the T20 World Cup trophy for the second time.

However, India did not come back from Australia empty-handed, even though the team was eliminated in the second stage at the end of the tournament. The Indian team earned a large amount of prize money for reaching the semi-finals of the tournament.

As announced by the International Cricket Council before the start of the tournament, the winner of the tournament will receive a total prize of $1.6 million, and the runner-up will receive $800,000.

Two semi-finalists who lost their respective games were set at a prize pool of $400,000. This is the reward Indian teams receive for reaching the semi-finals. It is a good amount of money for the Indian team, even though they lost their winning march at the semi-final stage only. The other eight teams in the Super 12 stage have their prize money set at $70,000 each. The 2022 World cup event has shown some upsets. The Netherlands’ victory over South Africa enabled Pakistan to reach the semi-finals. In the group stage, Zimbabwe had beaten Pakistan.

Even Ireland defeated England in the group stage of the tournament. It was the same England team that defeated the mighty Indians in the semi-finals by ten wickets.

The final of the tournament will be played on Sunday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground between England and Pakistan.
