Government Requests BCCI For India vs World XI Match For Independence Day Celebrations: Report

On the completion of 75 years of India’s independence, the Government of India has sent a proposal or proposal to BCCI to organize matches between India and the rest of the world. The match will take place as part of the celebrations on August 22, 2022.

The BCCI received the proposal from the Ministry of Culture to play the match as part of the campaignAzadi ka Amrit Mahotsav). The BCCI will be roping in India’s top players as well as top international cricketers. Even as the proposal is under discussion there are logistical and operational hurdles that have to be addressed.

The match will be between WORLD XI and INDIA XI. Getting the top players of the Indian team should not be a challenge, but for the world squad they would be requiring 13-14 players and their availability and commitments would be a challenge.

The top officials of the BCCI will be meeting at the ICC annual conference getting organized between July 22-26 held at Birmingham. For this match in India, they can discuss with officials of the other boards to release a few of their players.

With the ODIs in Zimbabwe ending on 20 August, some players will not be available as they may arrive on 22 August. On the other hand, for top players like Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Rohit Sharma, who aren’t participating in the Zimbabwe tour as they will be have to be part of the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka starting from August 27th.

The BCCI will have to also check the availability of all international players getting involved and to ensure that are getting paid or compensated properly for their participation. The reason for the situation to be so tight is because of the English domestic cricket would be proceedingas well as the CPL(Caribbean Premier League) would also see its commencement early to the same dates around. The BCCI’s concern would be to have a top field of international players for the World XI team.

As for India XI, Indian cricketers would need little convincing to be there, as this is an event in honor of the country. Most likely the game is to be played at Feroz Shah Kotlamaidan (Delhi), although there’s an official confirmation which is yet to be released.

The government is not just roping in the various departments for the celebration campaigns, they are also having NGOs, educational institutions, e-commerce platforms and even the general public involved. According to the events calendared and prepared by the Ministry of Culture, the celebrations will include exhibitions by the Indian Railways on trains and the Defense Ministry is organizing a motorcycle ride as Kargil Vijay Diwas.
