Former Cricketer’s Warning for All-Format Players: ‘Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma Both Are Resting’

Ashish Nehra, who’s been the coach for the winnings IPL team Gujarat Titans this year isn’t very much happy with the resting given to the senior players. He expressed himself stating that resting like this, especially in the crucial hours will lessen the opportunities for these players and go to those who are in line. Ashish Nehra also revealed that the coming future is going to be the same and will rarely be noticing all format captains.

The revelation from the Nehra came in a time when the BCCI is planning to have two set of teams for India and also two different captains for them. This is no surprise because the Australia has followed the path long ago and was successful in executing it.

So why this strategy is required?

Ease of pressure – The above-mentioned strategy applied by BCCI is in order to focus on more matches simultaneously providing rest to different players.

Increase in Number of matches – As we all know how BCCI has the schedule to for all the matches which is currently going on as well as the ones in loop in the future. The increase of matches means more players and opportunities.

To increase the pool of match winners – As mentioned above, matches are increasing every time we see and in order to maintain its appetite, the BCCI needs a pool of talent that is enough and when time comes can be chosen to for the major leagues like the World Cup, T20I world cup and so on. On this Ashish Nehra said,

“With the amount of cricket that is happening, you have so many T20Is, World Cup in four years, T20 World Cup in two years. When all these will happen, you will have to increase the pool of players.”

Coming back to Ashish Nehra and his interview with Cricbuzz he said,

“Even in India, how many players are there right now who play all three formats? And you named two: Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma. Both are resting. And because of that so many players are getting an opportunity. But you will see this thing in the coming times.”

He signed off words like to be careful while some big tournament is in line, He said,

“And then you will have to be careful with whom you will back when some big tournament is coming. Like this is a five-match series, who would you back when the T20 World Cup is just around the corner. It is just impossible for someone to play three formats without taking a break,”

From all the above points made we realized one thing, and it is that the Ashish Nehra wanted to warn the senior set of players to hold up their guards properly because if they don’t, opportunities might not get slipped out of their hands. T20 World cup is on the verge of its start from October, and the senior team player efforts from the likes of Virat, Rohit and Jasprit’s will be much needed.
