FIFA World Cup – Portugal and Poland qualified for the FIFA World Cup | Playon99 News

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lewandowski are celebrating: Portugal and Poland beat Macedonia and Sweden, respectively, to book their places at the FIFA World Cup.

Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo qualified for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 after a 2-0 win over North Macedonia, giving the 37-year-old Manchester United star the chance to play in the fifth FIFA World Cup of his career.

Fernando Santos’ side sealed their ticket to the FIFA World Cup thanks to Bruno Fernandes, who scored a brace against the Macedonians, who had caused a surprise by eliminating Italy in the previous round.

In the 31st minute of the first half, Bruno Fernandes won the ball back in midfield after Stefan Ristovski had made a poor change in front of him, passed it to Cristiano Ronaldo and, before entering the box, CR7 returned it to his teammate, who scored with a right-footed shot to make it 1-0.

The previous detail: Cristiano’s pass to a visiting defender for Bruno Fernandes’ subsequent shot. A delight for the first goal of the match from a player much questioned for his lack of appearance in important matches.

The same Bruno Fernandes, who also plays for Manchester United, scored in the second half, after a great pass from Diogo Jota, to seal the victory and Portugal’s qualification for the next FIFA World Cup to be held in Qatar from November 21 to December 18.

Portugal sealed their ticket to their eighth FIFA World Cup in their history, where they will be looking to improve on their best performance, recorded with third place at England 1966, one place ahead of the one achieved at Germany 2006, the first of Cristiano Ronaldo’s five appearances.

Poland qualified and knocked out Sweden

Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski will be one of the stars of the FIFA World Cup: the striker scored Poland’s first goal in the final match against Sweden with a penalty kick at the start of the second half.

Just over 20 minutes later, Napoli’s Piotr Zielinski extended Poland’s led to put the seal on their FIFA World Cup qualification.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was on the Swedish bench and came on in the last ten minutes, will not be at the top event he wanted to reach after his return to his country’s national team.

It was a match played with high tension on both sides, with few chances, especially in the first half.

Lewandowski had a header at the start and then it was the Polish goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczesny, who saved a very dangerous shot by Emil Forsberg.

It all opened up for the Poles as Jesper Karlström’s penalty was dislodged by Grzegorz Krychowiak and Lewandowski took advantage to raise his record as Poland’s all-time leading scorer with 75 goals.

Sweden took their chances and Szczesny was once again at his best, until Zielinski capitalized on a turnover to make it 2-0. Then Ibra came on, late to try, probably for the last time, to take part in a FIFA World Cup.

Thus, Poland ensured their participation in a FIFA World Cup for the second time in a row: in Russia 2018 they left with just three points in the group stage after a win against Japan and defeats against Colombia and Senegal.
