Next week there will be a FIFA date and the national teams in Europe are already preparing for their commitments. Portugal will be looking for qualification, England and France will have friendlies and Denmark announced a long-awaited return.

By Facundo Di Bona (@facudibona).

Portugal will have to play for qualification to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 on March 24 against Turkey and, if they win, they will play a match against the winner of the match between Italy and North Macedonia, and they are relying on the players of the old guard.

Cristiano Ronaldo headed Portugal’s list, while Joao Felix, Bernardo Silva, Joao Cancelo, Rui Patricio, Joao Moutinho, Diogo Jota and Pepe, among others, were the heavyweights included by coach Fernando Santos.

On the other hand, some teams that have already qualified for the FIFA World Cup will have friendly matches to prepare for the World Cup at the end of the year, including England.

Their coach, Gareth Southgate, surprised by leaving out two Manchester United players: Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.

Instead, he decided to take players like Tammy Abraham and Emile Smith Rowe, in addition to the already known Harry Kane, Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka, Jack Grealish and Raheem Sterling.

Rashford’s absence is understandable, even though he is one of the best English promises, but Sancho’s absence is a real surprise considering his good performance at Manchester United and despite the results.

France, another of the teams that will play friendlies in preparation, released its list of called-up players with a surprise that brought more than a smile to Barcelona.

Ousmane Dembelé, who has had recent conflicts with Barcelona and yet decided to stay and play, was not included in the last list released by Didier Deschamps ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

The striker had not been in the squad for the European Qualifiers in November and December, while he was also not considered for the Final Four of the Nations League due to a knee injury.

Also absent from the squad are Nabil Fekir, who is currently playing for Real Betis, and Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano.

Finally, in Denmark, the most eagerly awaited return of Christian Eriksen to his country’s jersey since suffering a heart attack took place.

Eriksen returned to play soccer for Brentford in the Premier League and will now hope to be in Denmark’s final squad for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
