Football news: Manchester United beat Aston Villa 1-0 with a McTominay goal and advanced to the FA Cup. Cristiano Ronaldo’s team will face Middlesbrough.

Manchester United will be in the round of 32 of the FA Cup: The Red Devils beat Aston Villa thanks to Scott McTominay’s lone goal before 10 minutes of play.

The problem? It does not convince from the game. Not before with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and not now with Ralf Rangnick.

McTominay warned with a shot from outside the area that Emiliano Martínez caught as soon as the match began and headed in the 8th minute for the first goal.

Scott is the best news since Rangnick’s arrival: he has scored 2 of 4 four goals scored by Manchester United with the former RB Leipzig manager on the bench.

With the score 1-0, the game was a suffering for the locals: almost all the occasions of the first half were for Aston Villa.

Victor Lindelof was just enough for Ollie Watkins to miss two minutes after the goal, while David De Gea excelled on a shot from John McGinn at 20.

Watkins himself shook the crossbar after sitting Lindelof and Jacob Ramsey had a shot that grazed the post.

Manchester United tried to counter with actions from Edinson Cavani and Luke Shaw, but it was proven that Emiliano Martínez is one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.

In the second half it was worse: Manchester United once again showed that they are incapable of elaborating, managing the matches and stopping rival attacks.

The miracle of not having conceded goals is called VAR: the judges annulled a goal in the 54th minute for an offside so fair that Michael Oliver had to go to the video. McGinn crossed, Konsa prolonged and Watkins brushed the ball to knock Danny Ings out of play.

At game time there was another disallowed goal: Ings stung on De Gea’s exit and Watkins finished off with an empty goal, but it was not worth it either because Ings had started in an advanced position.

Steven Gerrard‘s Aston Villa did not give up and De Gea showed off again to deflect a shot from Matty Cash for a corner and Watkins tried his luck with a shot that just brushed the post.

Liverpool legend Gerrard returned to Old Trafford, but was marred by the absences of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo, who has back problems.

Neither was, despite having passed the medical examination, the star incorporation -Philippe Coutinho- in the ranks of the Villains.

The only positive for Manchester United is that they had Raphael Varane in the center of the rear and did not concede very clear chances in the final stretch.

Those led by Ragnick won unconvinced, but Manchester United will be in the round of 32 and will have to face the Championship’s Middlesbrough.
