Europa League – Eintracht Frankfurt took the lead

Europa League – West Ham tried in every way. But they were unlucky and lost to a great Eintracht Frankfurt. The duel was very even and the Germans left London with a great result.

Eintracht Frankfurt won the first round of the Europa League Semifinals. At the London Stadium, they won a valuable 1-2 that brings them at least a little closer to the Final.

The Germans held a good West Ham, who, however, could not sew the seams of a team that showed the good side. Not in the Bundesliga, but in Europe. The one that makes them a fearsome team.

Two different styles were presented to the clash. But the same essence: attack, attack and attack. That’s how West Ham and Eintracht Frankfurt presented themselves in a match that already had something to tell after 50 seconds.

Eintracht Frankfurt was on the attack

On the first arrival, when the crowd had barely sat down, Rafael Santos Borré produced a cross to the far post that surprised everyone. And it ended with an unmissable header from Knauff.

The Hammers, who were in the ascendancy at the start of the game, continued to build on their long possessions. Always with a very high tempo and looking for the same recipient in their lateral crosses: Michail Antonio.

The Anglo-Jamaican was a pain in the neck for the visiting backline. And he took advantage of an extension from a set piece to level the score by diving under the crossbar.

From that 20th minute onwards, West Ham grew after the equalizer. But they again had their breath caught in another great counter-attack that Knauff, the scorer of the 0-1 scorer, failed to capitalize on just before the break.

In the second half, the Hammers slowed down a bit, gave the ball to an opponent that struggles more in static. And it didn’t work.

Not even 10 minutes had passed when a great one-two between Lindstrom and Sow ended with a goal for Kamada. He took advantage of Areola’s rebound to strike again. The position was fair. But the VAR said it was valid.

West Ham did not fall behind

After that, David Moyes’ side continued with more faith than clarity in search of the second. The Scot made few changes to the bench. But bringing on Benrahma was more than enough.

The Algerian revolutionized the scenario and had the first chance that hit the woodwork. A tremendous right-footed shot from the edge of the area from a corner was narrowly deflected by the crossbar. But it made the Londoners believe.

In the closing stages, and with the home side’s lines getting tighter and tighter, Kamada missed the 1-3 that would have almost put Eintracht Frankfurt into the final. Only 10 minutes remained. But West Ham did not give up and almost found the prize.

It was a crazy move with Bowen at the heart of the action. With 60 seconds left on the clock, the English winger turned a cross into the box into a spectacular scissor kick that spat violently off the crossbar.

West Ham had the last chance. But the reality is that this 1-2 only reflects the enormous equality between the two teams. And that, as expected, everything will be settled in Frankfurt. The prize is enormous and so are the two contenders.
