On the one hand, due to the short duration of cricket and the time-consuming format, Sagar started to decline everywhere, many players retired from Test cricket. Someone announced his retirement from ODIs. While there is some discussion about this every day, now another cricketer has done this.

England former left-handed opener and present chairman of England and Wales Cricket Board thinks both shorter and longer formats of cricket i.e. T20 and Test can go hands in hand. Kiwis left-handed fast blower Trent Boult recently took the stand to go with the franchise team and had given first preference to the franchise team over the New Zealand cricket board. Test cricket in England attracts many fans and the stadium is packed almost during every encounter while other countries have very few audiences for the longer format of the game. On the other hand, the shortest format i.e. T20 is having guidance worldwide so naturally, it provides substantial business and earnings to cricket boards. West Indies team is a classic example of this fact we can see many of the Windies players are making a mark on an international platform and are preferring franchise teams over the national team.

Andrew Strauss thinks that players are always looking for the best opportunities and can choose wisely from them. Further, he said that ECB is planning for strong domestic games for all formats and will ensure players will get the right balance of all versions of cricket which will prevent them from drifting down to the shorter format route. According to Strauss, so many players are committed and challenging themselves to prove that they are the best in the toughest format of cricket.

On the other hand, the Zimbabwean head coach thinks cricket’s future is going to be like Football with more franchise-based competitions and three-month international encounters.
