Champions League – Villarreal tried to turn the series around. But they couldn’t. And they came up against -perhaps- the best team in the world at the moment. Klopp’s team will play their tenth European final and have a chance to win the treble.

Liverpool is the first finalist of the Champions League. In a great second leg Semifinal -and with a changing match- they won their ticket to the decisive duel in Paris.

Villarreal came out all guns blazing and, with a spectacular first half, took a 2-0 lead to level the aggregate score. But in the second half, Klopp’s team showed no mercy.

Fabinho, Luis Díaz and Mané reversed the result in 12 minutes with the help of punctual errors of the entire defense. Thus, they will go for the seventh Champions League of their history waiting for the opponent that will emerge between Manchester City-Real Madrid.

There were two totally different halves. Villarreal went for it and surprised their rival to the point that they did not let them stand. After three minutes they took the lead with a goal by Boulaye Dia. And they kept on pressing up top.

Towards the end of the first half, Francis Coquelin headed in another assist from Etienne Capoue to make it 2-0. And the Estadio de la Cerámica -formerly Madrigal- was falling apart.

The joy lasted for a while

But the solidity of the defense with Foyth, the play from the feet of Lo Celso, Parejo and Capoue, and the desire of those above, were cut when the complement began. Jürgen Klopp put his hand in and Liverpool became Liverpool again. They took control and searched for it until they found it.

Fabinho broke the lines, appeared in the box and took his chance. The ball slipped through Rulli’s legs and it was 2-1. The Argentine goalkeeper who last season was the idol that gave them the Europa League on penalties, this time he had a bad night. Albeit with disproportionate criticism.

Five minutes later, substitute Luis Diaz took advantage of the spaces. He headed in Alexander-Arnold’s cross to make it 2-2.

The blow was a huge one for Villarreal. After just a few minutes, Liverpool killed everything off. Sadio Mané picked up the ball alone in the middle of the pitch and ran towards goal. Rulli came out and the striker left him in the way to make it 3-2.

Liverpool closed the Semifinals with a 5-2 aggregate score and the qualification to the tenth Champions League final in its history. Tomorrow they will know their opponent: Manchester City or Real Madrid, with the advantage for the Citizens.

Villarreal fell on their feet

Villarreal had little to complain about. They played like a final and overpowered this tremendous Liverpool all the way.

It closes a Champions League in which they had just eliminated two historic teams like Juventus and Bayern Munich. The thorn will remain in the first leg at Anfield Road. In which they did not dare knowing that they had what they needed. And the final mistakes that condemned them.

Liverpool continues to make history

Liverpool is the English team that has won the Champions League the most times. They did it in 1976-77, 1977-78, 1980-81, 1983-84, 2005-06 and 2018-19. In addition, they lost in three: 1985, 2007 and 2018.

On the other hand, Liverpool is closing its season competing in everything. It has already won the League Cup. While it is going to play the FA Cup final and is fighting the Premier League one point behind Manchester City with four dates to play. Whatever happens, they already know that on May 28 they will define the Champions League in Paris.
