Inter Milan won 1-0 at Anfield but lost on aggregate and Liverpool advanced to the Champions League Quarterfinals. Lautaro Martinez scored the only goal of the game, but Alexis Sanchez was sent off and Simone Inzaghi made the wrong substitutions.

Inter Milan returned to the Champions League finals after 10 years and, in a great display of attitude and dignity, were eliminated at Anfield Road by Liverpool, but returned to Italy with a victory under their belts.
Liverpool, one of the favorites in this Champions League and one of the best in the world for years, had to welcome Inter Milan with the advantage of a 2-0 win at Giuseppe Meazza and pulled off the surprise of the day.

The Nerazzurri believed they could do things right – as in the first leg, where they were superior – and turn the aggregate score around in the same stadium where Atlético Madrid – to give an example – were also able to eliminate Jurgen Klopp’s side.
The first half showed us that Liverpool knew the dangers of Inter Milan and controlled Lautaro Martinez and Alexis Sanchez to the letter, while the only clear situation was for the English team: Joel Matip hit the crossbar with a header after half an hour of play.

After the second half, the Italians came out for the second half ready to eat up their opponents’ pitch, and managed to outdo them in intensity and pressure. Meanwhile, the development seemed the same as in the first leg, with the Serie A leaders trying but failing to get there, although everything has its end.
In a moment of desperation and with a good interception by Ivan Perisic, Sanchez assisted Martinez and the Argentine striker did not spare: with a shot worthy of a top scorer, he put the ball in the corner where spiders sleep and gave Inter Milan hope with the score 1-0.
Lautaro Martínez with an absolute golazo only to be overshadowed by of course Alexis Sanchez getting a red card and sent off lmao #UCL

The Italian team had everything to win. Dominance, pressure, intensity, and commitment, but the latter was what Sanchez lacked in terms of intelligence.
Two minutes after the goal that gave hope to his team, the Chilean striker -who was cautioned- recklessly threw himself at a divided ball and the referee decided to give him a second yellow card to send him off.

Inter Milan was left with ten players on the field and it all went up in smoke. The team was unable to execute the plan and Liverpool calmly dominated the remaining minutes of the series.
On top of that, Simone Inzaghi – coach of the Italians – made a bad mistake with his changes and took off his best player and goal scorer, Lautaro Martinez, something unforgivable in the coach’s manual.
In any case, after the departure of Antonio Conte and Romelu Lukaku, Inzaghi has continued to pave the path started by the current Tottenham coach and Inter Milan is back in the European limelight, although they still have a long way to go to be among the favorites for the Champions League.
