Barcelona find themselves in a precarious position if they are to qualify for the last-16 of the Champions League.
The LaLiga giants will need to beat Bayern Munich in the final game of the group-stage. The Catalans haven’t won the Champions League since 2015, and are currently in danger of getting knocked out of the competition before even qualifying for the last-16.
Newly-appointed boss Xavi has his work cut out as he tries to get Barca’s season back on track.
Bayern have already qualified for the next round after winning group E. The Bavarian giants have had a perfect Champions League campaign so far, winning all five matches. Julian Naglesmann’s side have also beaten Barcelona 8-2 not too long ago, so memories of that defeat will still be fresh on everyone’s mind.
Barcelona could have progressed to the next round if they’d have beaten Benfica in the last game, but a 0-0 draw means they have to defeat Bayern in the final group-stage game.
However, if they fail to beat Bayern and Benfica lose to Dynamo Kiev, Barcelona will make it through due to a two-point advantage in the standings on the group table.
Conversely, if Benfica beat Dynamo and Barca lose, Benfica will qualify as runners-up and the Catalans will enter the Europa League.
Even if Barcelona draw with Bayern, they would still need Benfica to lose to Dynamo to qualify for the next round
At present, Real Madrid are the only LaLiga side to have confirmed a spot for themselves in the round of 16. Los Blancos sit atop Group D with 12 points, two clear of Inter.
