Captaincy Options for India to replace Rohit Sharma in the match against England
Having tested positive for Covid-19, Rohit Sharma, the captaincy of the Indian cricket team is in question!!
It was with Virat Kohli’s stepping down as captain in January 2022 that Rohit Sharma got appointed.
Rohit is a new test captain and he has got good experience in white-ball cricket and IPL.
Now, the question is Who will replace Rohit Sharma. Will it be:
Jasprit having grown through the ranks is an excellent leader known for his prowess in pace attack. He is an integral part of the team and is well regarded by former international players. He has had roles as vice-captain but can he lead as a captain. This 28-year-old has garnered 123 wickets with an average of 21.73 in 29 test matches for India.
Coming to Virat, what can we say. Having played at the highest levels with a lot of experience, he is one of India’s prolific and successful Test cricket captains. His stats are 101 Tests, with 8043 runs at an average of 50. Add to this he has 27 Test hundreds, including 7 Double Hundreds.
As for Rishabh, though a young player, he has proven himself as a key player in the Indian cricket team. This wicketkeeper hitter is India’s first choice as a wicketkeeper and is being groomed by the management of Indian cricket as a future captain. He has played for India in 30 Tests, scoring 1920 runs, with an average of 40.85. Though he may lack experience as a captain, with support and guidance from the veterans like Virat Kohli he can be a good captain.

However, coming forward on Rohit’s health report, Rahul said,
“The update on Rohit is that he’s being monitored by our medical team. He has not yet been ruled out,” Dravid said. “Obviously, he needs to get the negative tests to be available, so we will keep monitoring that; we still got close to 36 hours to go.
He’ll have a test later tonight and maybe one tomorrow morning as well and then we’ll see. Obviously, he’ll have to come out of that (isolation) and it’s really up to the medical team and the sports science team to decide
“I think (who the stand-in captain could be), it’s probably better that the communication comes from the official sources… Once we have some clarity on the exact situation of Rohit, you’ll hear from the official sources. It’s not for me to give out official communication.”
